BF2/PR Crashes While Launching Into Servers

I just recently starting playing PR but am having problems on both my desktop and laptop computers running BF2 (and PR).
I started playing BF2 on my desktop 3+ years ago (AMD 4400+ & 2 NVIDIA GT 7800-SLI). About a year ago while launching into BF2 online servers, my game would crash back to the desktop with no errors. After re-loading the game mulitple times and updating PB, I gave up trying to fix the problem.
Then about 7 months ago I bought a new Alienware laptop (Intel 2 Due T7200 & NVIDIA 8700M GT). I loaded BF2 and PR on this computer and everything was great for the first 5 months. And then one day out of the blue (exactly like my desktop) I was launching into a PR server, and boom back to my desktop. I reloaded both games and again the same results.
I have no idea why the game is doing the exact same thing on two completely differenct computers with very different specs? The only thing I can think of is some kind of NVIDIA driver problem, but this makes no sense because the games worked great on both machines beforehand, with no driver updates?
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know? I am searching for lots of forums, but haven't seen this specific problem yet.
Thanks!
