The Marmite challenge - loves and hates of PR

I've been accused of being overly negative; and I can see why. However, there are some things I love about PR, as well as some things that really spoil it. I thought it might be interesting to challenge my mindset, as well as encouraging other people to challenge theirs, by posting a list of my highs and lows of PR. Hopefully people will follow. My only request is: Make sure you post an equal number of loves to hates; and please don't bulk up one or the other with fatuous "I love the way doing resuscitate makes me sound like a phone-pest!" style entries just so you can have another free "hate" slot, or vice versa.
So, here's my loves:
- I REALLY love the improvements made to anti-tank combat. It used to be that a single tank would screw over an entire team on some maps. Now, they dominate, they're mean, but they're eminently manageable. IMO the balance is "just right" ATM.
- I really enjoy playing the taliban medic; bolt actions FTW.
- I think INS mode is awesome, I play it pretty much to exclusion of AAS. I think the maps are almost all especially awesome for it.
- I think the deployable assets in game are excellent now, a real leap forward.
- I love what mumble's done for the game, inter-squad cohesion's finally a realistic option.
And my hates:
- I hate the spawn times on civvies. They're no-longer played, and that sandbags all the dozens of awesomely fun things about INS faction with painful respawns and long treks
- I hate the hyper-sensitive move-deviation on the firing. It makes CQB random and arbitrary, and med and long-ranged combat into a facile game of chicken. There's got to be a dozen more-elegant alternatives to the problem of people going rambo.
- I hate the frustrating mine-marker limitations that, combined with inattentive team-mates, means traps are magnets for friendlies.
- I hate the gun emplacements without zooms that everyone else seems to be able to snipe with from crazy range; my camera change key zooms me on technicals, etc - the .50s and LMGs don't zoom at all and I get sniped by riflemen...
- I hate when I send a perfectly aimed grenade through they are from my UGL, and instead of arcing gracefully through the trees to land squarely where I placed it, it detonates unceremoniously on the extreme edge of a tree's leaves.

Good stuff Ace. I think you just get noticed reinforcing the negatives more often than the positives, and I sometimes happened to read maybe 3 of your posts in 5 minutes and it created an impression. I am sure you're a great player to play with. I wouldn't mind hitting up a pub server with you sometime.
Couldn't agree more on the CQB btw.
Loves:
- The kits you have, the way you can assign roles and have a fleshed out squad.
- The intensity of fire fights and how suppressing seems to actually work. The amazing spectacle of a squad's concentrated firepower.
- Meeting 5 other random people and over the course of 2 hours or more becoming a closely knit squad which has meshed to the point of being effective and by the end of it feeling that astounding sense of esprit de corps. That even in victory its bittersweet because your squad's time is over.
Hates:
- How most kits don't have grenades. The M67 grenade used by the US and Canada weighs 14 ounces, or 0.875 pounds. Thats nothing. Everyone should have grenades since they are a vital part of clearing buildings or suppressing before an assault.
- That nobody ever seems to die anymore. You can't force people to not shoot for the head when after all is said and done the head still has the fewest shots to 'wounded' compared to centre mass.
- Server Reserved slots. 31 on 31 is stupid. 'nuff said.

Nice topic! And some good points already. Im currently in love with PR so Im curious on how many Negatives I can come up with. Lets see:
Loves:
- The teamwork and the way an "army" moves over the map in most games
- The kits and the way they are used. Like calling an AT if you see an APC or supply pilot
- Insurgency mode! First I hated it but its the most real thing I have played in a game yet I think
- APC support! Dont know what it is but in every game I love APC's
- Base-Building. The new assets rocks and I love to fortify a position with a good firebase
- The surpression effect! Never works in a game but now you can surpress peopel
- Random deviation. Its good that its no lazers anymore
Negatives:
- Bad pilots. Makes a game end way to fast.
- Hoggers of any sort. People who get what they want without thinking for the rest of the team
- Random deviation. Also a positive but this can be arsy at some times when you where hoping for a perfect shot
- The long spawn time on collaborator. Like the Topic starter said already
- The huge ticket bleed some maps have when you cap the for-last flag
- The commander position. No one wants it anymore wich is a shame. I hope the DEV's will improve this in the future

Loves :
- Players, most of them just rock

- 25vs25 (and more) scrims, there are no other games on earth to play to make you feel like in a PR match.
- Pretty much the whole gameplay, considering what is hardcoded and what isn't with the BF2 engine.
Negatives :
- Commanders would deserve a more interesting task, it's just boring nowadays (more indirect strikes, way to "buy" vehicles for the team...)
- The revive system, I think there are too much medics/revives in PR 0.85 (due IMHO to the ironsight more deadly than before and the non-lethal headshots). But I know you DEVs are on it

- Pilots. I like the way PR is about combined arms but the stupids just ruin most of the Muttrah rounds, flying empty over the city and being shot 5 times a round...

- Civilians. I'd personally remove them and add another class with medibag, SMG or pistol and without epipen
- Instant prone hardcoded, this is just sad.

Loves:
- Squad leading when people do as they're told; you get to see a whole plan work out and get the job done.
- Calling in fire support from an APC/Tank and watching the building full of enemies get vapourised with long range fire
- Insurgency mode. Win.
- Using a Laser Designator on a tank while hidden and watching said tank tur into a smouldering pile of slag a few seconds later.
- The Al Bas VCP. Anyone who plays on T&T will know what I like to do there

- Artillery; whip out laser, target, watch the fireworks. Joyous.
- SL'ing under a good commander.
- Deviation; no laser guns, but also no distinct feeling of playing airsoft during a gale.
Negatives:
- Snipers. Hate them. Waste of time on your side, bloody annoying on the other.
- People who insist on flying a transport heli when there are no people on the server; it's not needed!
- Deviation. Spending an age lining up a shot, holding steady, then watching it sail past the target. If deviation is to simulate being out of breath/stressed/etc, then a long enough pause SHOULD turn the gun into a virtual laser out to a fair distance.
- Collaborators. Everything to do with them. But mostly the spawn; makes the kit useless.
- Insurgents/Taliban are now just another regular army with inferior weapons. Bring back random spawn points again, no RP's, faster spawns and lower health
- Watching a very, very dull film while trying to get uncooperative people to do as they're told and occasionally calling in artillery and acting as a phone operator. AKA Commanding.
- Excess of incendiary 'nades. SL, Engi, Specialist should be the only carriers.
- Insurgent Shotgun snipers. One-shot kill from fifty metres...
- The bloody SKS. Hate it. Probably shouldn't be changed, but I still hate it.
- THE NEW WIRE! The old wire was useful to block doorways & passages, and was harder to kill. The new stuff just spawns a mile from the door you want to block, usually on your head. PLEASE bring back the old style stuff! I'd be willing to lose the base and regain the floating wire if it meant I could actually seal an area off with the stuff...
- NO FASTROPEZ!
One of the above points is a joke. Which could it be?

ok, i'll give this a try. it looks interesting.
positive
- I like the reduced recoil on g3 and ak47, it makes combat easier.
- I like the manuel feel on armour and how the machine gun comes from the right.
- I like the gunner's HUD on the apache.
- I like Asad khal and fallujah west
- I like how close air support is continually being refined. and the current CAS system.
negetive
- I do not like the grouping on the M16 burst firing mode.
- I dont like how the tanks do not have a vertical stabiliser.
- while i like the razor wire, i wish we could have them link together to form a proper barrier.
- I do not like Karbala, it's layout is stale and far too symmetrical.
- I do not like the force center button on mumble.

Like:
Medic system, a lot more fun and interactive than vanilla with the whole actually healing them after you revive. (I love medic so much that when playing one I always make sure to say, "you're good, now get back to the fight!" after I heal people)
.50 cal machine guns, 'nuff said
cohesive squads
Dislike:
Godless collaborator spawn time
lone wolfing drivers/pilots
INS players who can't see CLEARLY marked and located traps (the only FF incident with grenade traps I wasn't angry about was when I had a sq. member apologize after getting himself blown up because I did mark it and tell everyone. Nobody else ever owns up to it)

Likes:
- Amount of teamwork. For example, the pilots are doing an awesome job in most of the servers.
- AAS.
- Shooting (difficult to hit targets -> good). I just love the 'dear god I actually hit him'-feeling.
- Building.
- Can't explain more plus-sides, the whole game is full of them. Project Reality simply is my favourite game.
The dislikes' were much easier to come up with.
Dislikes:
- Insurgency mode (equals ARCADE).
- Current Collaborator-system, the other team brutally ignores the fact they are not supposed to shoot one.
- The insurgents have too many RPG's available.
- Lonewolves (snipers), solovehicles, people that don't obey orders from the SL or the commander.
- I can't as a SL deny/approve a squad member requesting a kit from a supply crate.
- Game is not 1-hit->down. Instead I can run around shooting people with bullets in my stomach.
- The shotgun. Feels a bit too accurate.
- The tanks do not have a vertical stabiliser.
- In maps that end up in CQC, I see way too many medics.
- Dolphine-diving, I'm hoping it gets fixed with the 'you prone - need to deploy weapon'-system.
- Limited mine-marking, and idiots that drive on my marked mines and punish for that.
- Commander-system is dead.
- How APC's are used as light tanks.
No sarcasm or jokes included above. Just my honest opinions, some of them has been mentioned earlier and I know that some of these are being worked on.
All the best,
Viki
