personally id like to see both sides having 5.56 caliber machine guns vs. 7.62 machine gun two different choices for suppport (if PR can figure out how to use the "unlockable weapon" feature, which i know they are still trying to figure out)
5.56 would be less powerful, but have a larger magazine (about 200)
7.62 would be more powerful and contain a smaller magazine (about 100)
i say about 100/200 rounds because i know the realife counter-parts wont have exactly that many rounds. and to spice things up, maybe one caliber could have burst fire, the other doesnt, or one could have a small 2x zoom, and so forth.
what's everyone think?
7.62 vs 5.56

I think it's a nice idea on paper but could boil down to weight issues.
Then again would the larger ammo weigh all that more?
Aside from that what would really be the purpose between the two? LMG's are anti-infantry, would a calibre upgrade really change much?
The only real difference i can see is one weapon is for Long Range Suppressive fire, while the other is more suited for city conflict?
(Perhaps giving the lighter variants those special scopes? The name escapes me)

If we can't use the unlockable weapons feature, we'll try to put in new kit options in other ways, Riki.'[R-CON wrote:Riki_Rude_BTYC']personally id like to see both sides having 5.56 caliber machine guns vs. 7.62 machine gun two different choices for suppport (if PR can figure out how to use the "unlockable weapon" feature, which i know they are still trying to figure out)

SAW/LSW/intermediate cartridge LMGs versus full-sized cartridge LMGs/MMGs/GPMGs is a distinction we would like to include, yes. Magazine capacity vs. power would not be the only balance. Other factors might be that the intermediate cartridge LMG/SAW would be more accurate from the standing position (light enough to shoulder) and its accuracy would be quicker to recover from movement/traverse (weight, once again).

Yup. i think LMGs need to be slower... a lot slower, lumbering and hard to move, not ott, but enough to make them lumbering...'[R-DEV wrote:Eddie Baker']Other factors might be that the intermediate cartridge LMG/SAW would be more accurate from the standing position (light enough to shoulder) and its accuracy would be quicker to recover from movement/traverse (weight, once again).
