Do you guys know how incredibly annoyed I was back in the days watching this trailer and didn't have a computer good enough to run the game?
Had to play it at my friends house...
All the best,

It wouldn't have the power to instantly make me go, "Must play this now!!!" I'd consider it. Frankly, I was impressed with that .85 trailer and the Hans Zimmer music. Or was that .8? Either way, it was interesting introducing the US Army, while still keeping the Marines.

Those .50 cal placement scenes were 'smoking' as well.
Maybe veteran PR players from the .5 days have such warm feelings for the version that they associate most things with it as greatness. Since I'm not quite from that era in this mod, I'm not super ecstatic about the trailer. It's still pretty good. Heck, even the official Dice trailers for the add-ons made me happy.

The 0.5 trailer was absolutely awesome... the filmography (if there's such a thing) and settings with the music come together in this mix that just works so well. I like the new trailers and they're good and all, I just honestly still love watching that 0.5 one.
I was a 0.25er but got serious in 0.32

GOD!!! I miss the special forces kit. I will kill someone just to get it back in PR, just say the name almighty devs and i will do the deed, unless the special forces kit doesn't come back.
Man, i want to go back to 0.5 now, it had better things in it i thought. plus Al-Basrah back then was fun when you were insurgent, plus atleast to have Anti-aircraft guns back then also atleast the US controlled it like they do now since the british left. plus there was VIP mode which was the best, since it was hard as hell on some maps *cough* street *cough*

Mmmm, good times gone with the wind.
To tell you the truth, the game dynamics in v0.5 and v0.6 won a lot of people over. I'll admit that not all the things were in tune with the "realism" theme back then. But there was a lot of some mind-blowing content to make up for it in those disputable "gray areas", such as:
Commander abilities, airborn supply drops (which had an awesome sound of a propeller driven aircraft dropping a supply crate above you and you had to wait 5 minutes for it to touch down.), Bunkers and Firebases would generate tickets encouraging teams to build them and would also provide ammunition. The original Engineer repair trucks that offered ammo and repairs to vehicles alongside the once existent Combat Engineer class.
For those that cherish and remember those days well, they'll be worn like badges of honor. For some other individuals out there, they believe that those days were the "dark times" of PR and shunned at the thought of speaking it's name. But this all had to begin somewhere, when PR was more open-minded and orientated to emphasize the importance of fun within realism.
Now it's practically almost the opposite this time. We're no longer working with just the default vehicles and equipment from BF2. We have shiny new weapons and animations at the cost of what I feel is gameplay dynamics.
I think I had more fun in the past when I wasn't having to constantly worry about my squads performance. Feels like the only time I have fun now when playing PR is when I'm watching the battlefield recorder video. That's after the struggle to keep everyone in the squad focused, well supplied and attempting to prevent myself from tearing my hair out as I stare at the map while other team members are rushing to the next flag without the thought of defense.
They're all just memories now. But hey, to each his own. It's a shame there can't be two different versions of PR. For the ones that loved the past, and for the ones that love the present.
However, what I have noticed time and time again is that there are a large amount of people thinking that the next release of PR will be the same as the last, but just improved upon. Like what happened in v0.7 and v0.75, and the v0.8 build. Everyone thought it would be just like the last and expanded upon with newer vehicles and animations. Turns out that it had almost ended up being a completely new game all over again. Then everyone's standing around like "Wait, what just happened?". But that's the feeling you get with something new and almost completely unfamiliar.
Anyways, a word of personal advice to those that have just joined PR and/or have only been around for a year or less. One day there will be a build that just "clicks" with your personality and gameplay style and you'll absolutely enjoy it through and through. Then 6 months later when the next one is released, that will all change and at that same point you'll begin your journey to recapture the essence of your most favorite period in PR history. I do hope that you find it though, because for some it isn't coming back. Just the way it is, and it's been that way ever since I learned the hard way.
