I belong to this Canadian Community (Canadian News Content) and on there forums they have a reputation system. Basicly if somebody likes somebodies comments they can give them a positive rep but if they dislike it (find it racist, offensive, etc) they can negative rep it. Each negative rep will give them a % warning.

People on that site really like the rep system for there own self accomplishment kind of thing but the negative rep system could help forums admins find people who are off topic, racist, rude, etc without having to dig through every single topic and read every single post to find them all.

Gives the community something extra to do and makes admining a little easier. Also the rep system had a rep cooldown. You can only rep once with a 1 hour cooldown to prevent spam.

All the reps are recorded in there profile for viewing with links to the topic and post of what they got rep'd for. Finding there good posts easier and for admins to find there bad posts easier also.

I don't think non-moderators should be able to give people warnings or anything. It is about violating forum rules not saying something the others don't like to hear and being "thumb-down"ed for that. However, something to honour very helpful posts would be nice. A "thanking" system or something along these lines. But I wouldn't want anything that can get below a zero level. That's something the mod's should do.

This would ultimately result in my removal from the forums. I give this thread negative Rep.

Yes, if somebody makes a good post or a good point. It's kinda decent of somebody to pat them on the back. Seeing how if somebody made a good post it probally took some time and a lot of thought and possibly a lot of researching (if it's a debate) to do. Some posts just deserve reps. It's just a suggestion and it works perfectly on that site that has just as many community members as this site if not more.

It helps admins notice remarks that sometimes goes un-noticed like a warning flag as admins can't check every single forum topic and post all the time. It's nothing more than a tool to give people rep for there post and help admins with there jobs. Nothing more.

You can already vote on a certain thread whether it's good or not, I don't really see why there should be such system for every individual. Besides, I've seen this system before on another forum (also well moderated, and that one was much smaller) and it didn't worked out (was removed after a month or so), because most people just gave the people they hate personally, rather then their post, a minus. So take it from me it won't work out.

It will actually, you can't judge everything based on one personal experience. I have seen this system work countless times and in many big communities. Some much largest than this one.

x2, I seen it on several forums and it works with no problem. Its a good way to see who is just a troll and who is not.

In the upper right hand corner of each post there is the thing that says Moderation Options and you can use that to help us admin the forums.
