Restricting New Suggestions

Would it be possible to limit the ability to post a new suggestion until a member has 100 posts or so. This would stop alot of useless posting and hopefully let the mods have a rest from so many resuggestions.
Hopefully my thread wont get locked. lol, but i hope some of u regulars agree with me and it can be done.

Yeah, I'm seriously considering this... perhaps not 100 posts, but perhaps a period of time and/or post count.

it could be done, but alot of good ideas would be silenced as well as lots and lots of posts just to get a count high enough to post. Its best to let them post then force them to get a post count high enough to do stuff.

sadly, as had been said to a post that was suggested... that was EXACTLY this suggestion (which i assume you are trying to prevent)
Actually, i have a better idea...
We have a "test"
You have to read a "TERMS OF AGREEMENT" page... and at the bottom you have to take a "TEST"
It would have questions like
"Are suggestions about fastropes allowed, unless it actually is an interesting idea, and you are a programmer who understands this, and you have researched it"
which would be answered "No"
I also find it funny that you want suggestions to be 100 posts... and you only have 39 posts... > > Isn't that.. oh.. whats the word.. an oxymoron or something like that?

Sterotype.
I posted a decent suggestion back when I had 13 post...and I still have less than 100. About 30-40% of the decent posters have less than 100 post. Doing this would just stop a few bad posters and restrict the rest.

Again, we should do the "DID YOU ACTUALLY READ THE TERMS OF AGREEMENT?" test... XD
think of it as passing a training requirement, also in order to see if you actually feel like your post is worth spending time to answer questions you find silly.

Well, the upside of it would be that it would stop moderators appearing overzealous or impersonal... currently we have a massive number of un-thought out, unresearched or just plain resuggestion suggestions being posted, and when we deal with them people get upset and see it as harsh.
On the other hand, if we don't deal with them - the forum regulars get pissed off that the same old ideas are being floated about again and again and again, and it floods the forum so heavily with worthless stuff that the genuinely original and worthwhile suggestions can be overlooked.
A system that simply removes this issue isn't a bad idea - the people with the genuinely good ideas can either ask someone to post them on their behalf or will be interested enough to hang around for a while until they can make their suggestion. Those who don't have the patience to research their own resuggestion before they post it, won't.

okay. maybe not 100 posts but ive been here since may 07 so i know whats going on with the community.
I check the website almost everday and i love the suggestions section but i gets frustrating when everyone posts resuggestions all the time.
Maybe you have to be a member for a month to post here along with 30 posts. That seems to be fair.
I dont think saying that you understand the terms of use will help, its just the lack of motivation to do a little research.
I admit i did search this but i wasnt about to go though 17 pages of threads with the word "resuggestion" so i did 8 or so, but i wish something would be done to help boost productive posting.
Edit: What you said Masaq

Why is it that re-re-re-re-re-resuggestions get locked and kept to flood the forums rather than deleting them from the face of the internets?

Because then we get a flood of threads saying "where did my thread go to" and "I made this before but it vanished"... much easier to lock and explain why it's been locked rather than just delete. Generally, it saves on the re-posts by the same guy - AND leaves the thread visible on the forums -
just in case someone does a quick search!

im guessing so that when somebody searched to see if it was suggested there is actual evidence of it.
Ninjad again...lol

100 posts is too much. Somewhere around 10-20?

True but if there was one difinitive fast rope thread, they would always be redirected there.

sadly people woudl still make there own..

I still think that we should have the "terms" test...
it would give people an idea of suggestions.. and you could even try and tie these "Agreements (questions)" to a thread that you can easily edit and add stuff.. like the "Already suggestion thread"
> > It just makes it so that we can hit some major pointers....
Specifically the stuff that is dark red on the "Already suggested" thread...
i think everyone should know, whether they can post or not...
(cause you know what the side effect will be? They'll post suggestions into other categories just to bypass you and get some kind of attention)

Your right, they will post and clutter other areas of the forums. Maybe a combination of both would be best. Anything we do wont work 100% but we need something to help somewhat.

Reworded-
Well with the test idea, we could have it be stated
"You realize that talking about fastropes after taking this test will make you liable to be blocked from posting on forum for a maximum of (sentence)"

I really don't see the need. Many users first join the forums to give their own suggestions, and try to contribute their own ideas. Yes, there are some users who aren't aware of some of the things that have been suggested, but even if some things are resuggested with a few modifications, they often bring up ideas on ways to improve the game that weren't considered when they were "first" suggested.
And, aside from that, it's pretty fascist

It's like trying to find a one-size-fots-all solution, when there really isn't that big of a problem, imo. Sure, a quarter the suggestion subforummay be filled with locked threads at times, but that still leaves 2/3 with valid suggestions and discussions, often created by newer users offering out-of-the-box ideas that were suppressed from everyone else when they read through most forums.

Go to the bottom of the suggestions thread, click view last week, then go back a few pages. Marvel at the locks.

McLuv.. after being here for what seems about 2 years...
i have to say...
I burst out laughing everytime i see "Fastropes"...
=) But it's going to kill me someday
I mean, in the method i said... which i like some of the other methods, but they seem kinda... discriminate to older members.... in my method it is just a test to ensure that people realize that they know what they are doing..
kinda like a driver's license test.... =) only much much easier as the answers are RIGHT in front of you... in a blob of text...
