Shouldnt the miniguns realy get some updating by now? The one now has a number of flaws like the rate of fire, and the time it takes to begin firing( the lag between ckikcing your mouse and the minigun starts to fire is realy way too long.)And yes i did the search and didnt find anything on this subject, pleaase if this is for some reason a re-suggestion or i did the search wrong you must help me! This video should give a idea of what it should be  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RisIiGuN7eg The idea of this suggestion is to bring up the use of the minigun as light air support and making more space to vanilla bf2.

I recall that the minigun on the blackhawk will eventually be replaced by a more appropriate and realistic M240

miniguns are only mounted on the special forces ones.

the army ones use a different door gun.

As you can see, the door gun is an M240.

The miniguns are very easy to up-date, in the Combined Arms mod, they have, whether or not the PR DEVs will want to update them, I do not know.

A bit offtopic here:
But could it be that the other players in or around the chopper can hear you shooting, even if youre just spinning it.

It's because there are so many bad suggestions/resuggestions that people can't tolerate anything unless it seems like an epic win. I seem to see the attitude "if it's not a radical change, don't bother with it (hey, it's probably hardcoded! :p )" alot in the suggestions forum.

Well, it's the little things which add to the overall realism factor. I say +1 to anything adding realism, I prefer that over l33t new factions and all their equipment. And saying that, I bet I have royally pissed off the devs. Flame on! :p

IIRC, a realistic rate of fire cannot be implemented because BF2 doesn't let ROF numbers go high enough. To compensate for this, the Devs have kept the explosive rounds from vBF2.

But what is realistic?

The m240 or the one they have now? In terms of the marines or the army?

A realistic rof can be done really, with batch sizes. Not perfect but similar.

Don“t the chinooks in afghanistan have one minigun on them (and 2 whatever-they-are-slower-guns)?

Somewhere in this series of videos you can see it.

That's an M60, it seems. (source look at the bottom)
I know it's off-topic, but why isn't the Merlin armed?

This?
The aircraft can be armed with two M134 six-barrelled Miniguns, one in each front side window, and an M60D machine gun on the ramp.
But from what I saw in the documentary they had at least one side minigun equipped.

Hm... Why shouldnt all helicopters be armed? I think, the more armament, the less people or equiptment it can carry..

I might be wrong, also perhaps it has go something to do with the aerodynamic thingy in real life?
I mean a big thing sticking out of a vehicle going in aprox. 300 kmph, is going to cause alot of drag?

Anyway, if having the m240 on the BH is realistic, i say go for it.

i myself would like the minigun also as a light air support weapon

But similar results can be created by letting the gun be two guns I think. The a-10 certainly appears to have a much higher rate of fire.

And there was a long discussion a few weeks ago about if the army uses the minigun on the blackhawk and it seems like they do sometimes IIRC, usually with one 240 and one minigun on each BH.

They could have switched, or the gun was transferred to a different heli/ weapon was being repaired at base or something like that. I've seen pics of a Canadian gunship, which had a GPMG on one side, and a minigun on the other side. Could vary.

The only regiment that regularly uses the M134 minigun is the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. All others use either the M240 or the M2HB.

And one picture doesn't satisfy as proof. You could throw a pair of tits on a man and take pictures, but does that mean that all men have tits? Either significant numbers of separate helicopters, or documentation saying that significant numbers Army or Marine regiments (significant meaning more using than more not) employ significant numbers of them (significant meaning more than M240s or M2s)

A little off topic, but the ROF for the A-10 is definitely too high. Shooting it for more then a few seconds gives you and other players on the map turbo lag.

Back on topic, as long as miniguns are fixed or replaced by something more realistic, great. From what I've seen, if your just spooling the minigun on your screen, on other people's screens it's actually shooting..
