Our own anti-cheating software

The post below and the number of threads related to PB + number of people
giving up on PR/BF2 because of constant issues got me thinking we should
discuss weather or not this can work for PR.
Is it worth it? Do we have the resources? Is this a "good idea"? and so on.
Can this work for other games? (minor)

1. It will be harder to crack since only players that play PR can attempt to crack unlike PB which is in every game out there.

2. It would be easier to fix issues. People are getting kicked by PB left, right and centre while hackers crash servers almost daily with impunity and PB is doing nothing about it since its only a minority who suffer.

3. There will be an incentive to develop the software unlike PB which rarely gets updated as games get older even if they're still popular.

4. Another simple solution is to force player to use only 1 nickname per cd-key/install so hackers who are discovered have another hassle on their hands. Also players can have their hardware GUID saved on servers and once banned its shared across all PR servers.

5. Finally, no appeals for hacking bans.

Honestly PB problems are 99% on the client side, usaully its something wrong with your PC that is causing these PB kicks in the first place, Despite the recent Fraps/Xfire stuff I don't think there is anything really wrong with PB and it works because the right people get banned.

Personally it sounds like a great idea. The problem is if it's even possible I don't know if we have anyone you even knows how.

Sounds like a good idea, but it seems like a lot of work tbh. Maybe we might get this later on (past 1.0)

Thing is, PB AutoKicks aren't accurate, and would have -99000 for all the "civvie" (innocent) kicks.

The bans? ACCURATE! These are issued by a human.

PB's fine. Let it gather evidence and ban those who have been banned by a human, but otherwise it can't do anything. Almost like if you had a police officer who could carry out search warrants and carry out already issued arrest warrants, but could do nothing else until higher ranking police officers came into play.

This is generally the case.

I concur. PB kicks are frustrating, and I've had numerous problems, but all of them have been due to clientside issues. Making sure the services are running properly, your firewall isn't blocking the PB services, your connection isn't dropping key packets, your software isn't corrupt and thus failing MD5 checks, etc etc - these are all client-problems and PR anti-cheat software would have to kick people for the same failings. PR anti-cheat software couldn't just "allow" people to have corrupt (IE modified) installations, or to not respond to queries, or to run arbitrary utilities with in-game overlays built in any more than PB can.

And as for hackers crashing servers - it may well be the case that this happens - but 25% of my map-changes result in a CTD, and you can't tell me that some cunning hackers are all waiting on a server for an hour or so just to drop a CTD at the SAME loading percentage each time. Inexplicable mid-game CTDs? Pretty uncommon for me, a lot less common that explicable crashes that coincide with my PC running hot during graphic-intensive combat.

Well is it even allowed into the battlefield 2 engine? Hardcoded

Can we make many people moderate it? Easy for server admins to enter, regarding the GUID f.ex.

And will we be able to code or create it?

There was at least 1 time (about a month ago) when it was not on the client side,
had something to do with the x64 Operating systems. The clients would just CTD,
but no kicks.Doing nothing (no play :-( ) for about a week sorted things out,but I suppose that isn't too bad in the long run.Win 7 will get supported eventually, most likely when it goes retail and you have to pay for it :p

edit*
Yea the CTD hack and some others -were another reason I brought this up,since PB could not do much
in that regard. However this has been fixed in the 1.5b patch according to DICE.Also I don't know if PB could
do anything in that regard -seems like the DICEes/EA's job.
@ Wicca PB is optional - but the other things are "hard coded" (need to be "hard modded" ? :) )
