Squad assigned assets

I did a quick search and didn't find anything so here goes.

My idea is that when a squad leader creates a squad there should be some way, either a comm rose, or a menu, or something, so that the squad leader chooses the assets that squad can use. for example inf, armor and air. this prevents squads from having multiple differing assets in a single squad.

in my opinion this would help prevent people from going willy nilly with assets.

Just an idea.

Have you tried naming your squad an asset name and telling your squad over voip or team/squad chat?

Players are hardcoded and there is little the DEVs can do about what a player does with what they are given.

Most servers say that if you are named after an asset you get it. EX Cobra = you get the cobra (first shot at it)

It would be nice but don't think it's possible. I avoide being a APC, Tank or Heli squad anymore because of all the drama. You make a squad and if somebody else wanted it you will get into a arguement or if you make a squad that a admin wanted in some servers. Sometimes you even get kicked for it (happed to me once, and saw it happen to others twice).

It's really too bad that it stirs all this drama and this suggestion could have helped with all that but it's just not possible.

There has been the idea of giving squads a squad vehicle, however with light transports being gone except in insurgency this idea wont happen :(

This is probably not possible engine-wise, but I'm playing in my head about an idea in which you, upon creating a squad, also choose the "branch" for that squad (scouts, assault, air force, engineers, etc.). Bad examples, maybe, but you get what I mean. Various "branches" would have various weapons and classes - for example, a SCOUT squad gets the Marksman and Sniper class. Again, you get the idea even though my examples aren't the best  .

Kinda akin to World in Conflict, in which you choose whether you want to be a commander of infantry, armour, helicopters or support assets, and your choice affects which units you can buy as well as each unit's cost. In Project Reality, you could for example have a "Sapper/Engineer" branch that got access to various engineer classes such as the Crewman, and also had one or two basic classes such as the Rifleman, for defensive purposes. Certain classes, such as the MEdic, could perhaps be available to pretty much all kinds of squads.

But again, this is probably impossible to implement.

That is when the admins of the server don't decide on getting the asset even if you created the asset named squad first.

Anyway, about the suggestion if that was done, you shouldn't include APC's in that limitation so that it allows mechanized infantry squads.

I'm against the suggestion (which I think is a re suggestion anyway).

There's enough drama already with named squads, it's organizational benefits are overrated IMO.

I've been in very effective squads where 4-5 are infantry and 1-2 are pilots/crewmen, because you can talk (not type) to the people controlling the asset for improved coordination.

If everyone used mumble then that wouldn't be as much as an advantage but they don't.

it's a pity it seems it can't be done, the only reason I suggested it was to prevent all that drama that seems to come up. I play in the TG server and the only way an asset can be assigned is if a commander assigns it, this would be a way to assign assets without a commander. If someone comes up with a better idea more power to em'.

Anythings better than the free for all that ensues currently.

Oh and to reply to snazz concerning mumble, some people can't use it. myself being on a college campus the firewall blocks certain programs and it happens to allow the BF2 client, but blocks the mumble client.
