Bullet Drop Factor Calculation

I've been doing testing a lot lately... especially with the sniper rifles. At medium ranges, i can pretty much aim without a scope (wierd, but true), but when I zoom in for the long range kills, I NEVER HIT MY TARGET!
Even when prone, it never hits! I fired an M24 at a gunner, the bullet went sideways (i have no idea) and hit the wall. Then i tried again and it went too low, clipping the edge of his cover. I tried adding bullet drop factor, and when i fire the bullet hit EXACTLY WHERE I WAS AIMING (the X-hairs, not my target).
GRR!! WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME?
no matter what I do, i can never score a long range shot. Is there a wind factor involved too?

Really? Oh well... sniping has been pretty much rendered near-useless.

try to aim a bit longer, it´s gotten more important to "rest" for some secs than in vbf2

Actualy I havent really found a decent explination of how the sniper rifles work. Ocasionaly I can get 3 kills in a row and other time I can lay there for minutes and still miss.

Don't give up on it, you just need to practice some more. Like dunkellic said you need to hold your aim still for longer to get your aim perfect. I was sniping on a server last night and got about 3 kills in a row from long distance. The snipers are definately accurate, they just take some practice. Its just something you need to get a feel for.

That's why i have to work more on new sniper rifle... i found it very inaccurate so far ;]

Sniper rifles seem very inconsistent to me, like last night i was playing, got three long range head shots without resting, in arow, later on i rested for 10 seconds on a mid range traget, aimed for the body and missed, 6 times...

I honestly dont know what you guys are seeing? Even in .2 they were accurate!
In .2 i was (guessing) about 60% accurate and now in .3 about 90%, i think the sniper class is extremly effective.

90%? i make it more 55-60%, and thats with atlest 10 seconds rest, on a mid range target aiming for the body on a slow moving target, with some kind of Bizzare luck factor for long range targets, i Really dont get it, due to the inconsistences i get while playing as a sniper

The new sniper rifle is quite accurate. Heres a video that I gave testers to confirm that the SPR is accurate (don't mind the weird scope texture, was during development):
http://media.putfile.com/Sniper-63
Its hard to see (I'll post a higher quality version if you don't believe me :razz

but basically its from 154 meters away, two shots within a second of each other drop a stationary target which can barely be seen through the scope. So trust me, its accurate.
Like I said earlier, sniper rifles just take some getting used to. Inconsistency is partially due to bullet deviation (the ugly step-child we inherit from BF2) and some of its also due to the player. I get the same thing with all weapons. Sometimes I can easily pick off players running past with a rifle in single shot, sometimes I miss entirely. Usually depends on my mood, time of day (3 AM tends to be the worse time for me

), or other factors. You'd be amazed what little things can do to your coordination and such. Anyways, just my 2 cents. I want to go play some more PR.

I have no problems with any sniper rifle except at extreme ranges (720+ Meters). Then I can't hit a damn thing.
With the sniper rifles I found if you let your target run into the scope you'll down him everytime. Seems to be inaccurate if you move the scope & fire.
Just be completely still & patient don't rush your shots unless you feel like you need to.

I still feel that the most inaccurate sniper in the game is the Mark 12 thats simple because i haven't used it enough though, and i tend to take very long shots that i would have better luck with an M24, but its all about practice. I suggest everyone gives it a chance.

The sniper rifles do take some time to get used to. I've been using the sniper kit almost exclusively since the new release and I like it alot more than the previous version.
A good kill zone to start with is between 100m and 150m. Rest and aim time do play a factor(not so much for me now). Stationary targets are best to target, then goto moving targets.
I also agree with [R-DEV]KingofCamelot about the "little things" affecting concentration and the like.

I don't know. Up close it seems I have been getting bs-ed by snipers who just insta-prone and then fire off a bunch of shots with the semi-auto snipers.

I must confess to using the semi-auto sniper as a close combat self defense weapon. A couple times I've unexpectedly ran into someone I didn't expect to see and had to let rip without the scope on, but what else are you supposed to do? I've had a lot of luck with the SPR since using it, the 30 round mag is awesome, I can just shoot people all day without having to care about reloading for ages. It's really accurate, I just wish the M24 was even more so.

LoL, It makes me sad to see that the Sniper actually was slated to have the Laser Range Finder binoculars. But I agree with the M24 being very inconsistent at times. As far as I'm concerned I'd rather have to hit the target 2 or 3 times (or once in the head) with excellent accuracy than to have to hit him once with the accuracy of throwing the bullets.
The best way that I have found to shoot it is to aim at an area where you think the target will move to and pray that he does. And always try to place yourself at as far a distance as you possibly can while using the M24, as its report is VERY easy to distinguish from the other weapons and you will have a knife in the side of your head if your not careful.
Its also very worth your while to head for the enemys back spawn and hunt down the commander. He's a very juicy target, point wise.

I love being a commander in PRMM because it's easy to take part in combat as well. Seeing as commanders can't really do much other than approve artillery and supply crates, you can go out and fight and bring up the manager when someone asks for somethig. I've only just started to hear some commander comments I never knew existed, like the alternative text for revives and stuff.

yesterday afternoon i was on this map, though i cant remember what the name was, and was at the top of one of those water towers at the base of a bridge. the enemy (mec in this case) had control of the construction site and were attacking the next flag. there were quite a few people on this top section of wall firing down, and i was trying my best to shoot em off with the new sniper rifle. alas, i couldnt hit a thing, even taking bullet drop into account (since it was my first time with that gun), until i noticed that aiming just below, say, for the neck while only their heads were showing (since they were hiding behind a wall), allowed me to get a headshot. so, aiming below the intended target at a fairly long range will surely get you a kill, or at least some major damage done to your 'victim'. not sure, but this may only apply to me cos im different..
oh, and sorry for the long post
