As it is known in PR there is no masking, all subjects, soldiers and cars are visible very well. The idea consists what to make tanks and other vechicles similar to bushes, At the same time it is necessary to add more vegetation on maps.
It would be would be desirable that in game of more chances to remain not noticed for the opponent.
I have given an example as it would be possible to realise it on attached pic.
However it is possible to allow the tank the motionless disguised position In which it will be similar to a rock or bushes.

Live cam is the common term and it is often practiced, and very effective IRL. Normally string is pulled very tight through various parts of the tank and bushes and branches threaded behind them, with sods of turf put on the flat frontal surfaces.

Actualy Russians do not conduct tankfights in forests (Kozelsk) it not typically for tanks, however, if such fight was coming, similar masking would be very extended.
By the way, motionless disguised position сan look like this:

Yeah I find it unlikely that this would be workable considering things like Ghillie suits and rocket mesh don't work.

It can be made to work fine. Its very unlike the sniper mesh. All the LOD's would need this geo to cover it up.

The only reason you don't see much of it today is because we don't have tanks in the Middle East in the 21st century. In the gulf war I doubt there was much to blend in with. I would expect in places like China and Russia for there to be tons of forest to at least use shrubbery to camouflage with.
Good Example

In sweden we use the barracuda camoflague net to reduce heat and visual signature. It does help conceal the tank but it does not exactly look like a bush.

just create some "overgowth"/animated mesh and add it as child/via code to the model, that way you could add those in game, without having any "it doenst draw" issue.
...anyway thats the way i would do it
