Window damage effect

I don't know how bullet holes are drawn but is it possible to add new texture for bullet hole?
If this is possible I suggest we add very large and dense shattered bullet proof glass texture for any bullet proof vehicle window when get shot insted of current little hole.
Currently humvee driver literally laugh at enemy riflemans face when it comes down to humvee vs rifle when rifleman is firing at humvee at literally 1 yard from his face. This is pretty much exploit.
I heard complex system for penetration is difficult (it will be much better if bullet actually penetrate windows and doors but with much less damage to player) so if possible, adding realistic bullet proof window shattering effect will help alot.

If this was possible it would be awesome and bring a whole new level to ambushing vehicles.

I second that emotion, having a large glass shatter on the window would be better for gameplay as the driver now has difficluty seeing the road

+1 very nice idea

Very nice idea indeed, but afaik, if the guy who hit the windshield sprays a mag out in nowhere after he's shot the window the shattered glass will just repair itself in a blink.

So do you mean like the glass itself shatters or just the texture of the hole is different on glass...

only different texture

I believe that to be correct, also.
The 'effect' will only last so long before it disappears.
Imagine you could increase the time that projectile impacts hang around, but at what cost, i have no idea.

The driver does not see the bullet wholes I don't think anyways same with all bf2 vehicle glass.
If your going to say the glass on the hummer needs to be shattered then same gos with all glass in helis and tanks and apc and big reds glass window.
And magically repairing windows would just be weird as you wont need repairs to fix it.

And anyways would you even be able to see the texture on the glass outside while being inside the vehicle?

I think the should have the Humwee glass penetrable, so many time i have had an humwee right by me, and shooting right at the drivers face, but just wont die, and then they run me over.... This pisses me off.

It's impossible to add destructible object on vehicle isn't it? If it's not impossible shattering glass will be great.
But adding new shatter texture that lasts longer or even if short as now, momental effect will enhance reality and helps alot.

I like your idea ("that's a first") but the problem is the crew of the Humvee "Will not see or be hampered by the Shatter affect".
None the less it still look cool for screen shots.
If they make the glass penetrable It wouldn't be to real I'm not 100% sure but I am sure I watched a you tube video of a Rpg-7 hitting a armored up Humvee and it just reflected off the glass & there a lot of videos of AK-47's shooting the glass and only the glass becomes harder to see throw but nothing comes threw the glass It's truly bullet proof.
Oh and is it glass or a type of reinforced plastic mixed with reinforced Plexiglas? <|Not sure about that|>

An rpg would defiantly penetrate the windows of a Humvee but it is pretty good for stopping small arms fire. I am not to sure about what a 50. would do to that glass though. Maybe in a rare case if an rpg hit the window at the right angle it could be deflected if the warhead did not detonate on impact.

There warheads are very much known for not detonating on impact that's why there reports of USA tanks taking 100's of rpg7s and not even taking any major dmg.
but the game is about balance so a tank taking 100's of rpg7s before needing repairs won't happen.
Not only have rpg7's not detonated on apcs and tanks but even helicopters i'd say they only got a 85% chance to detonate on impacted there are better warheads that are not used in-game that Insurgents have very limited supply of that detonate like they should but the militia should have.

I got really bored one time and started messing around with the glass and I noticed that bullet hole decals on the outside of the glass would be invisible to the driver inside unless you fired through the window and hit the glass from the inside of the vehicles. I'm thinking the decals are one sided personally. Like if you glitch inside of a building in pretty much any game how you can see right through all the walls.

50cal round would go straight through it at most ranges with great ease
R.J.Travis wrote:Oh and is it glass or a type of reinforced plastic mixed with reinforced Plexiglas? <|Not sure about that|>
Yea basically its like a glass/plastic resin compound, the resin fills in the tiny cracks that are caused when glass is cut (to fit a pane) these cracks are the source of normal glass's weak appearance, in fact glass is one of the strongest materials on earth (see carbon fibre/fibre glass), just that its very expensive to shape it and keep its strength
+1 for this idea though, even if we can't get it working properly (and with bf2 i expect we wont) it would still look cool and add to immersion

OH SNAP! You are right! :d uh:
U.S. Supply truck don' even have object for front window from inside. You can stand on door step, shoot at front window from the side window and it just go thru with no object.
Can we expect nice coding for this one? I mean you guys can pull off things like Rally point, destructible building, and all other complex system that make Project Reality unique. If it is not about projectile penetration maybe it's possible?

I'm no coder but I think they would have to redo the full model to do what your asking.
BUT PM chessman his Up armed Humvee could maybe get what you want seeing you really only want it for the Humvee and its still not finished last i checked.
