The end of solo tankers?

Taken from the .86 change log:

"- added new code to not allow gunners without drivers in tanks, apcs and mobile AT vehicles. You can still drive by yourself if your driver/gets out, but you won't be able to gun without somebody in the driver seat. Check only takes place when getting inside the gunner seat."

so i guess you could get in the driver seat and drive off, but you cant jump in the gunner seat without a driver? sounds like a good solution. I like it. It seems like a nice compromise between those who think your tank should be inoperable until fully crewed { I was in that camp} and those who say you should still be able to atleast drive the tank in case your gunner dies or gets disconnected etc. Good job devs.

When was solo tanking ever a good thing? It's great they are killing this, takes it one more step then just having gun lock.

If you read properly, the check takes place when somebody hops INTO the Gunner's seat. Hence, if your driver jumps out you can still use the main gun, as long as the gunner stays seated.

and you need a crewman kit to operate the .50 cal gunner position

Your driver is able to hop into the .50 cal, where he should be to listen for bomb cars. But, TBH, for one whose against all and any exploits, simply turning off the engines should be gotten rid of, since it is in effect an unrealistic action.

also to support what your saying, on maps such as al basrah, having a dedicated .50 cal gunner, is the most effective way to dispatch bomb cars. i'v been in matches where the main gunner scored less than 15 kills and the .50 scored over 20 vehicles, believe it or not. (i was driving :P )

Mmmhmm. I still think tanks aren't quite perfected, regardless of whether or not one feels that they're taking too many players off the field. But, alas, that is for a different thread, with a different intention than the ones already suggested, and for a different time (when I write a novel of a post explaining why it's completely plausible, realistic and good for gameplay :P )

Have you experienced how the new system works? The driver can exit the vehicle, go on hike, get killed, or whatever and the gunner will be just fine as long as he entered the vehicle after the driver. Switching between the driver and cupola gunner positions will create no problems for the gunner.

*Edit*

Didn't see CheifRyza's post, he's spot on.

Good idea. Tanks are my favorite part of the game, and I hate to see them wasted by solo tankers

, simply turning off the engines should be gotten rid of
I would agree with this if vehicle sliding problem would be fixed, as for now, looks like its the only way to completely stop vehicle

Indeed, Ive experienced this also a few times. On albasrah the most important person of the tank is the .50 gunner. I will never drive a tank there without one.
Its very effective against bomb cars because he can turn his weapon much faster.

That's why you get someone manning the .50 to look out/shoot infantry at a distance.
