Added realsim to Supply Drops idea

Once a supply drop is ordered:
1) Add in a delay of about 20 seconds
2) Have the crate preceeded by the sound effect of a passing C130 or something
3) Have a shadow only of the supply plane cross over the drop zone
4) The crate lands about 30-40 seconds after it is started
This would add more realism to what is now insta-crates.

I think these 2 would be reall really good and shouldnt be to hard to do!
3 would be hard to implerment without a full model flying overhead.

yeah ... full model overhead wouldnt be do bad either lol... so i guess that just makes it a question of "making a full model is tough"

would take up way to much time to model, skin, code ect when we are working on the brits.

This could potentially be something very, very great. If supply crates were improved somewhat so they're more effective, the impending arrival of a supply crate would mean a lot more than it currently does. For example, ordering a supply crate would result in a 30 second delay, so teams would actually have to think about where they need them the most and they'd have to protect those locations. I say the accuracy remains the same, otherwise the whole protect thing gets messy.
So how do we make them more valuable? By default, give the assault class one ammo bag. Ammo bags will be adjusted so they're like ammo, they don't respawn. You can pick upto four from a supply crate, drop them at will (with delay of course) but when you've dropped four, that's it until you restock. Now this means teams will treasure those drops as there's no other way to get supplies to their team, other than armoured vehicles, but that's a bit risky, running behind a tank to fill up your guns. A team would need to carefully drop supply crates in their territory so all assault classes could fill up before heading into battle, and we'd see some new tactics relating to the boxes, rather than them just being used for target practise.
Another idea would be to have the supply drop request followed by a flare of a different colour that friendlies can see, like those attack request markers, except the whole team can see them. That way, people don't have to look at their minimaps to know where it's landing and can protect the area easier.

the time for the drop should be dependant on the distance from the main base i would be up for a 1 minute wait before the drop.

that is a good idea there... the further away it is the more time it takes...very nice

I think implenting the colored smoke to show where the supply drop is and also the 30 second or more delay is a good idea as to the removing ammo pack idea i think this wouldn't be a good idea since they would still have to carry one. It would make more sense for them to carry four.

Agreed. Making a model would not be such a good idea at the present time.
1) Is the shadow of a C-130 crossing the battlefield and drop location not doable without a model? Is that what you are saying Rhino?
2) Also, can the sound effect of the C-130 be made to cross the battlefield over the path of the drop or can it only be made to play at the drop location?
Thanks. Any AWESOME mod by the way. This is what BF2 should have been from the get-go. You all nailed it.

Yeah. Colored smoke for the drop zone would be a nice touch too. Smoke would stop when or just before crate landed. Nice idea.

But do you ask the question.... "Who put that there?"

It was Zeus instead of using thunderbolts he is using supply crates to be sneaky.

You don't need a full model, just a cardboard-cut-out silloette. Although I think just the sound would be enough.

Well you should it make it so it can be shot down in mid-flight by like a tank shell or something like it should be able to be blown up on the ground should make protecting it even more important. Wait never mind it can be blown up by tank shells right. If it can sorry for the stupid answer/suggestion.

im only a mapper, but with moving shaddows im pretty sure there has to be a model to go with it.

Well even if there is no model it would be kinda stupid to see shadows with nothing to cause the shadows.
