Supply boat

Well, title says it all. No new models or anything. Remove the m249, and give it a primary weapon that deployed a supply crate next to, in front of, or behind (whichever ends up being the most convenient) the boat. Maybe a reskin to differentiate, and remove the seats ofc.

Why?

1)

Asymmetry. if one team had to rely on supply boats rather than supply trucks then their supply line would be at the water, which would force them to change their tactics. e.g. Bi ming could benefit from this, if the Chi had it it would be like they were being resupplied from up river, whereas the brits are controling "supply road" at the start and therefore get Trucks.

Or even a flag dynamic could be used. You only get trucks spawning at main if you have X flag, otherwise you have to make do with the boat.

2)

On river maps it would be a very fast resupply route, but fraught with danger of ambush, which is a fun dynamic if you ask me :)

Problems

Reloading would be a problem maybe

Patrol boats aren't quite used in this way afaik, but the lack of interest in making new boats for BF2 is quite bad, so this would have to do.

It might be a fun dynamic :) and it could only help Barra 16.

i like it, would give a nice change to the tactics of river maps, plus anything to change the vbf2 boat is always welcome by me

Boats are awesomely fun in BF2 and PR and I think they're not exploited enough by PR's maps, considering the way they're used can change the dynamics of a game.

Problem is, where on earth do they drop their crates. Building an FOB on a nice open riverbank wouldn't be the ideal place.

remember the radius us 50m, so thats still alot of coastline on some maps :)

especially on Barra 16 as the swamp is accessable by the boats, and teh rock fortifications are well within 50m.

Sounds interesting but don't you think that supply crate is too big and heavy to be transported on RIBs? I can understand ammo boxes (the one dropped by jeep/apc) but supply crates?

I can understand the idea behind your suggestion and the possibilities it would bring in to gameplay but IMO it's too much and there is no way you could reload new crates since depot is usually far away from shore.

wouldn't it just require a helipad type rearm point at the boat's spawnpoint? (i.e. it'll only reload the boat and nothing else)

or the awesomeness that is driving into the swamp in the northeast on kozelsk :D

i like the idea but i can't really see supply boats being very useful on current maps tbh

If the crates are dropped in the water how will you resupply a soldier from it . you could code it that they drop on the shore but how far away does the boat have to be and isn't it hardcoded?

Maybe devs could code it to drop the crates 20 forward of the boat? I could see that working

Yeah I'm sure a solution could be found for how the crates spawn, that isn't really a problem. Like this idea alot though, like has been said there aren't really any maps where I think this would be of any widespread use, but it certainly has potential for any future maps that may be very river based.

I'm sure that's something that miliatries would just have to deal with if that was their only method of supply, plus like rudd said it could be part of a maps dynamic until a road CP has been taken.

The RIB is been suggested because there's currently no interest in making any other boat, I'm sure as well as the weapon being removed the speed could also be reduced and health maybe increased to simulate the properties of a sturdier boat.

Also like rudd said there could be a boat resupply station of some persuasion, if the map were to be soley river based in terms of supply the supply station could simply be put by the riverside.

i know which round inspired you for such suggestion ;-) was fun making our boat assaults and firesupport, especially my miracle evacuation under fire of LMGs and full squad :-P

+1 for this suggestion, at least for Op Bara on 16 layer

Make it only have 1 supply crate, and have 2-4 boats for that team, along with the normal transport boats.

There might be no interest in making a new boat, but maybe theres interest in making a hovercraft!! :O

I've got your point ;)

I was thinking about the current maps ;) Obviously, if a map is designed to use that kind of boats then some kind of depot will be placed next to the river.

Well I could see the area on the carrier where the boats spawn being one of them...

Op barracuda 16 lay is perfect for supply boats it will be more realistic whit supply boats
you don't need a supply base on enemy ground like in op barracuda, muttrah, jabal

THis isn't actually a bad idea.

A Hovercraft could definatly have Supply crates, maybe even 2.

And it's realistic, Hovercraft are used in real life, as transport, and they are armed.

Neat idea, well worth a try. Not sure how often it will be used but it could be a nice asset.
