I was playing a game the other day and I had an idea. I jumped into a little bird pilots squad and grabbed a kit with an LMG and got on one of the little bird's side seats. I then had the pilot fly me over a taliban controlled base and started gunning away. I ended up killing the last guy left (some guys cleared it out before I arrived) after hovering and gunning. Anyways, add a machine gunner to a transport little bird and you have an effective transport/gunship.

The lisstlebird isent designed to be a gunship, its main use is for transporting people quickly into battle and to give air cover if needed.

LB + LMG/HAT = CAS
LB + AA = AA...thing
Personally I don't like littlebirds since they have no protection for passengers, and can't fit a full squad + pilot. But I would never say no if a dude offered CAS from a littlebird, no mater the form

Well i think people should be in the squad with the littlbird pilot, and be used as a small airborne team, easy and effective and all members can fit

Oh, you hit alot... or at least suppress them. I did this on Muttrah with someone and we ripped the MEC apart with a SAW. A transport truck was driving down the main seaside road, and we came in and killed everyone in it... (6 guys)

With proper training you can attach a variety of weapons to the little bird.
But as said, it requires training before you will benefit from such an approach.

I had a LB try to do this to me. I shot the pilot out.

meh, that means the LB pilots need to keep changing squad, or everyone has to have a locked 5 man squad.

I've really only done this once, but it's pretty funny stuff. Alex and I were in squad, and we used both the HAT and AA kits. IIRC, we hit a tank with the Hat kit, and reported it's position to the Team so that the TOW humvee could finish it off, we managed to take out a few enemy squads with the AAs, and we spotted other stuff, such as a few APCs, squads, and FOBs.

^^^It is very, very fun
The point of this is to have a fast moving flyby vehicle. this only works really well if the enemy is insurgent/taliban. everybody else's weapons can do something to it if you are not careful.

When it works it works but I have a good laugh when 6 AK's open up on the LB killing the Pilot.

LOL We used to do that all the time at AL Basrah with the Merlin. We had a LMG and Grenade launcher, actually we did pretty good. The only thing is when your gunshipping you have to fly a little slower and that really attracts the rockets.

The Merlin is just a little too slow to do CAS attacks effectivly. It has great handling characteristics for certain strafe manuevers. A good pilot can keep the LB sideways for a long period of time while still moving in a fairly straight line. I practice this on trainning servers over the heli runway. Start at one end and strafe sideways the length of the runway, keeping the "9 o'clock" side of the heli pointing in the direction i am going.
The only bad thing about the Merlin is the AA vs LB scenario. Rarely does the AA miss. On top of that. 1 AR can get it smoking within just a few hits.
An easy tactic for the LB is to fly close to the hot zone, hover long enough to have a passenger get off a shot and get the F*** out of there- flaring all the way.
