I don't know if it is that I had not played for awhile...
but last night I was playing at TG, and during Kashan I really noticed some scary/awsome effects and sounds during firefights. We were fighting in the bunkers while a huge tank battle was going on in the mountains.
I just want to give it up for the sound/effect guys in PR... you made my day yesterday.

Sometimes *simple* things can make the game feel 10x better.

I've always had great sounds in PR much better than in bf2.

You guys'll love the upcoming PR build then, as annouced, many fly-by projectile sounds have been updated aswell as some changes in firing sounds. The increased audible distance for bullet impacts is gonna really be a thing of joy.

Gotta second this, the sounds in PR are quite frankly incredible and they've only got better in the new patch.

I Must admit, the sounds in PR do rock. But as the sounds have got better, So has the volume of the above stated sounds. This has had a big impacts on VoIP usage. Meaning I can't my squad mate on VoIP when in at tank/truck/jet/helo/fav/and so on/
Now I know some smart *** will say "Use Mumble". Well that's just not good enough. Mumble has it's own down sides. I Would like to see all ingame sounds volumes reduced by 50% so as to make VoIP usable again.

Of course, everything else would be effected (IE, no more hearing the footsteps aproaching), but ye, it's possible.

Mumble won't help that at all, VOIP actually reduces the sounds in game when you have incoming comms. I have my BF2 sound effects reduced to about 60% methinx.
I'ts soo aptmospheric when people are screaming over mumble though, when eplosions and gunshots are going off all around.

War is loud. Seriously, if it's really a problem, put the sound down in your menu.

Umm... hello? You can do that in the AUDIO OPTIONS section in the game. Don't go messing with the entire sound file collection... damn guys this reminds me of that time the US spent like a million bucks developing a pen that works in space when all they had to do was use a pencil.

Don't you think I have tried all the above?
But I get the feeling that most of you don't use the full on surround sound that you can get from using a full on EAX 5 x-Fi gamers cards and above. I Have tried dropping "Effects" settings to just 10% and having everything else at 100% and I Still can't hear VoIP clearly.
Now in my testing. I Have found that if I Don't use the "X-Fi" option and just have the sound settings at "Hardware" then all the sounds levels fall in to line. But you don't get full on surround sound, You just get up mixed stereo. Most players using on-board sound systems get this. This means that you don't get to hear somebody creeping up on you from behind as that sound effect is to your rear and so is not rendered until he is very close when the sound floods to the front sound lines anyway. Who ever is the sound guy DEV needs to lay his hands on an x-Fi gamer card (x-Fi music cards don't have the extra EAX 5 Hardware) or above and do some testing himself to see what I mean.
Like I said before. It's only an issue when I am in or near a vehicle of any sort. If I am on foot and not near any vehicles. VoIP is fine.
This is why I have said that the sounds need to be redone to take into account of the players with the high end sound cards. I Have an x-Fi Titanium. And trust me when I say the sounds from PR really do ROCK. But they are just a bit to loud.

I just have my Effects at around 60% works fine with mumble, TS and VoiP
Meh I used to play with the Creative X-fi Setting which I should be able to, Because I have an X-fi, but lately it doesn't work anymore

Technically this is all cheating for a reality game.
Example: The Medical Officer just told me two days ago he see's hearing aids in my near future, he was not even joking.
Case in point, as one poster said, War is loud.
I love yelling at people when stuff is going down, adds to the experience IMO.

1) the smart *** comment isn't necessary as 'mumble' could easily be replaced with teamspeak or vent in ur sentance for ur problem in this context.
2) I have my ingame volume on 50% already and its fine now, Jaymz has stated some of the noises will be changes, like trucks in later versions.

My Point about Mumble/TS/Vent is the fact that in pub games, Not everybody is using that type of software. Sure I know it's great when you have your team all on TS/Vent/Mumble. But in pub games it's just not the case. Not every body is on. I My Self self don't use Mumble for the fact that it is very poor in it's settings standards right now. Not everybody has the same settings. And so I will be at a disadvantage at times when using it. Plus the fact that it's sound codex is very crackly to me (I Am sure that is a fault of Vista 64 and will soon be fixed).
And how is it cheating to have full on positional audio like in real life instead of up mixed stereo that is not life like?
I am clad to hear that some sounds are getting a update in the next version. that is good news indeed.
