I am not sure how to create polls but Post your thaughts

Is PR still just a game modification or is it becoming a sort of interactive simulator (unofficial + non benificial simulator)

bit of both, realism with gameplay basically.

bad comparison, a mod and a simulation are not in the same category and thus are not opposites.

Now if the comparison was whether or not PR is a war game or a simulator, I'd say PR is more of a war game and will never reach the point where it could be considered a simulator. (as long as it remains a mod that is)

It’s a MOD, but specific parts of the MOD can without any doubt be used as a SIM. It basically depends on what you want to simulate.

As primarily example, some principles being used in real life warfare can be simulated in parts of PR.

Also some principles being used in PR (tourney especially) - principles also used in real life in general - can be simulated too. I have done that my self when being CO in the tourney.

yeah I'd have to say PR is a type of new game that we're going to see more and more of. It's not really bound by definate catagory, it just... is. However the goal of realism definately edges it more into the sim catagory than anything else.

A mod can be a sim.

I do not think PR is a sim tho.

Yup, I think he did mean game though. I don't really see it as a sim either though.

PR really is something special. If you judged it only by its physics engine, it would be anything but realistic. However, the kind of teamwork, atmosphere and awesomeness you get make it the most realistic MP game ever developed. Far more realistic than ArmA II, for example. There you get your nice bullet trajectories, but with the poor netcode, lacking unit cohesion and teamwork, it feels more like CS when played online.

Some people would argue BF2 is a simulation of warfare, its just how accrete, after all, all flight and train simulators are still considered games, a less they are for educational or training purposes and not leisure.

However, personnally I can not see PR being along the same lines of complexity as a simulator. To become a simulator you would need to have some functions like, cleaning your rifle, real time travel day light, and not be able to magicaly change battlefields, would have to be transported etc. So something similiar to Arma but with more realism, and a continuos mmorpg style too. Would be very complex to do. Either this, or virtual reality holographic type world that we cant develop yet, that kind of realism.

But for now, PR, the mod, has improved on BF2, but still has lots to do, loads of improvements to come! :D

Yes they could be. It would be possible to modify a flight simulator game, with realism, like a normal flight simulator into Battlefield 2, it would then be a battlefield 2 modification, which is a simulator, I had contemplated it before all my time disappeared with my job.
