British Assualt Ship (Bay Class)

Just a suggestion for a ship, if you were contemplating designing one, I would do RFA Mounts Bay, a almost brand new ship. Has helicopter space, which can take the chinooks, and landing craft/submersable rear ramp. A nice British amhpibious assualt map would be great.

Sgt Smeg is making HMS Ocean, and I think one carrier model would be enough :)

We are well aware of the Albion Class, which is really a Landing Platform Dock Ships (LPD).

In time you may see it but right now, not going to happen.

Also in your last pic I'm pretty sure that is not HMS Invincible since the ski jump extends to the very end of the ship as well as many other big differences.

It's not HMS Invincible, it says in the caption that it's an Invincible class carrier/CVS.

The carrier is actually the Spanish flagship Principe de Asturias**. Not even part of the RN let alone an Invincible class carrier

Either way... back to the OP:
Adding any RFA Bay class (or any part of the RFA flotilla) is a waste of time and not needed, even if there are any large "amhpibious assualt" maps added for the British, like all parts of the RFA, Bay class are used to supply RN warships with fuel, food and ammunition whilst they are at sea so they can remain operational..

Apart from perhaps in the Falklands although the RFA are trained to operate in close to military operations, they do not land on beaches and unload troops "in the thick of it". I'm guessing one good reason for this could be that the RFA are civilians.

"The Bay Class are designed to operate over the horizon using helicopters and landing craft through a floodable stern dock to get men and equipment ashore." Source

Kind of thought you'd know this being in the Merchant?

Should be great to see HMS Ocean though which contrary to Rudd saying it's a carrier is actually an LPD (as I notice Rhino has already mentioned).

With what it can carry IRL, it should be very versatile and suit a quite few different types of amphibious assault maps - or course someone would also need to add some LCVP Mk 5's :p

Living close to Portsmouth Naval Base and seeing them come and go only god knows how many times, I can see that the carrier in the image is HMS Ark Royal - the baby of the three.
Ye I meant Invincible class thou are you sure its one? the ski jump to me looks like its going to the very front of the ship, I see no AA gun at the front and other bits are looking very different to me?

You know what, after looking at that picture closely in the OP and booking an eye check. - That's not even an RN ship.... That's the Spanish carrier Principe de Asturias.

My excuse for quickly thinking that it was Ark Royal was the mid section.. It's kind of similar.. I didn't even look at the "ski jump" on the bow. *Hangs head in shame*

But yes, that's Principe de Asturias.

Yeah my mistake, it was a NATO excise the photo is from, its not invicible class at all.

As for not getting in the thick of it. As you already stated RFA landing ships were beached during the Falklands, and are designed to stick with RN fleets. As for supplying fuel, that is not exactly correct, there is another class of ship for that. RFA is trained to get in the thick of it, does do, and well there are lots of fictional maps in PR to give them the chance. I just thought it was a better platform then something like HMS Ocean that has a massive heli deck, which would be a waste, like the current US Assualt ship on Muttrah where it sits half empty.

RFA are in a caught somewhere between military and civilian and are not fully civilian, and when going into a war zone are not considered civilian at all.

Anyway HMS Ocean should be cool.

Rhino did you see my sniper breathing post? That recommendation has got to be a handy improvement.

IMO the OP's ship is very similar (NOT THE SAME) to the
'enterable' static container ship at Muttrah Docks

So the model is almost there!?!

I know nothing about modelling so I am awaiting the barrage of abuse!
;)

no, it would require a new model from scratch. there are vast differences between them.

lol, I did mention in my post one of the bits I saw differently was the ski jump :p

Wow, wouldn't that also be a lot of modeling too?

Modelling is only part of it, dont forget the UVing, Texturing etc ;)

A large, detailed ship of any kind is easily one of the hardest statics to make well and even finish.
