Snipers

I tried out the sniper class on PR yesterday and found out they are way to underpowered. Sniper bullets in real life would kill in one or two hits. I think all rifles need to be reajusted to one shot kill if it hits head or chest and 2 hits if it hits the feet or arms.

one word. Balance.
The sniper rifle is far from underpowered, however its way to unstable to be used properly. most of the time, shots will go way off othertimes its bang on.
For example i was playing as a sniper with the new rifle (SPR i belive) my shots were constantly way off even with resting the crosshairs ont he target for a couple of seconds. 10 minutes later I killed 3 people in a row 10 metres away from me without even resting the rifle to "settle" as the PR team keeps telling people to do.
Its just completely random, I cant ever trust a sniper will hit his target anymore.

well theres a lot of variables but everyone seems to be belly aching too much about it i like the snipers aslong as i can hit above 70% im happy and thats what im getting.....bullet deviation is another one to think of aswell as bullet drop..

70% or 85% dude? =P
Snipers are powered alright due to balance, but the accuracy needs to be constant.
Im only been getting 15-25 kills with these rifles.

some days ago i shotted 5 times with the m24 aiming EXACTLY on the head of an enemy and NOTHING.. i went berserk
so i tried holding my mouse click after shooting with the m24. it worked nice!
i don't know if it counts for something, holding the mouseclick

The BF2 engine makes deviation random. The area of which your bullets will land gets smaller, but the bullet will randomly land anywhere in that area. Closing down the area is possible by sitting still, proning and getting close to the target. If you're standing, moving toward the target and shaking your scope everywhere, you'll miss.

snipers arent supposed to get close to their target
i try to have as much distance as possible when sniping.

I never said it was advisable, but for best results ensure the end of the rifle is in direct contact with the target.
The only problem I have with shooting innaccurately is that when I miss I'm cannon fodder when they come looking for me. I decided to go camp in the chinese bunker on Road to Kyongnai (I really should remember how to spell that) as an American sniper/commander and was using my binocs for a little forward recon on the vehicles. A guy came, so I thought it'd test my M24 out, fired at him a couple of times but he drove away. I repositioned, as always, hidden in the trees behind a log in the undergrowth. I could've swore I was invisible. Next minute, a guy spawns. He gets in the Najing, turns around, drives straight at the log and mounts the .50 cal. He's gunning at my log but can't hit me because I'm HIDDEN, so he proceeds to get out and gun me down with his rifle while I'm left to deal with 'connection' issues. I couldn't really pursue my fears that he had some 'assistance' in finding me, it did seem pretty suspicious but I had no idea who he was.

You get close to your target with the sniper rifle? If your gonna do that, why dont you just go assualt? Becuase short range shooting with a Sniper rifle takes no skill, and you are more than likely gonna get chased with a 5.56 machine gun while you fight back with your semi auto 9mm and 75% of the chance lose a ticket for your team. Im not saying Covering a base while your squad advance is stupid, but infilitrating a base with one is a bit silly IMO.

Are you joking? am i losing the point of a scope on a sniper rifle? I thought it was to help you shoot enemys at long/medium range. Me and my imagination hey.

I have a problem with hitting an enemy in the head (with any weapon) and them not dieing. I know i am getting headshots because I can see the puffs of blood when I fire. At close range with the m16, I cannot kill in one headshot 75% of the time against a body armoured target. This is very frustrating.

Thats pretty strange. When i get a headshot the fall to the floor and dont move much.
I didnt think the armour on even the AA men protected face shots.

Hint for using the M24: Allow your crosshair to rest perfectley still for 4 seconds before pulling the trigger. This means you must wait for a target to come to a stop, which also means you need to start aiming for targets of high priority (Support gunners, Mounted Vehicle Gunners, Tank Commanders, etc etc) instead of just every grunt you see on the battlefield. Its also a good idea to place your crosshair in a choke point or alleyway and wait for someone to make the worst/last mistake of their life. Happy hunting!

Speaking of which, it would be interesting to hear an official word from the devs on the "resting time".
It's been pretty much inofficially confirmed that resting your gun for a while will improve the accuracy.
Could any dev point out, cold, hard numbers straight from the code as how much resting time will improve your accuracy ?
Does it improve continiously, when resting longer, or is it like 70% accurate right after going prone, still 70% accurate after having rested 3 seconds and 100% accurate after 4 seconds ?
Could someone clear this up ?

Ya I've had the same issue with M24 you all had.

I've had a bit of success killing moving infantry when keeping the rate of change (of my M24's sights) the same.
