My first time with PR

Recently I downloaded the mod and the maps. When I played it for the first time I was amazed with the size of the map and the new weapons. I was playing on a server and got killed....when I pressed on "Give Up"....the spawn timer showed 35..34..and then 6000. What the heck? 6000 seconds to spawn? Like come on. Thats an hour and 40 minutes of waiting. The round would have been over by then. Another time I had to press suicide cos I was really far from my team mates and vehicles. So when I did press it...guess what?....another 6000 seconds to wait. Who came up with this idea? And another thing....it's not that easy to tell apart between team mates and enemies. I almost ended up killing a team mate. The name took loonger to show. Something should be done about the 6000 seconds thing. The bikes were awesome to see but their color needs to be changed. They should be in camo and it's also hard to drive them cos of them falling on the sides.

You cant spawn as the top kit unless your a SL with 3 people in your squad...

The only way you could have got 6000sec spawn time is if you are trying to spawn as officer without being a squad leader or having a 3 man squad. Normally there is no 6000 sec spawn.

Could it have been cos maybe I accidently pressed the top class and then pressed another one (for example...a medic).

Select Rif kit.

Rif? What's that? Rifle?

Rifleman

and the bikes on insurgency are civlian vehicles, i.e. they won't be camoflagued.

You have definately made the mistake of selecting officer when you should select anything else.

The long spawntimer prevents you accidentally spawning with the officer kit. If you spawn with teh officer kit when you are not elibible for it you will be killed by the game as soon as you spawn.
it's not that easy to tell apart between team mates and enemies

Rudd, be nice ;)

Juanxz, if you try to spawn as an officer while not eligible to, you get the crazy spawn time, this is to prevent people from going officer solo.

Also, yes, it can be tricky to identify friend and foe - which is realistic. PR is trying to move away from the easy and unrealistic features of vanilla Battlefield 2, so you are required to take your time to actually confirm whether your target is a friend or an enemy.

Interesting idea...maybe. Has anyone bothered to wait the 6000 seconds to see if it will let you spawn in as an Officer? I imagine not... ;)

it will, but you'll just die immediately unless you are a squad leader

Great Video, But how did you capture sound with Xfire????

Anyway, If you want to know if the enemy is friend or foe get your map up and check the direction you are looking at to see if there are enemies.

Knowing that its an enemy or friend from the ground is so easy, try it from the cobra chopper while gunning or from the F-16 while going 1500 KM/H lol

I am also a relative noob after only three months my advice:

1. read pdf manual lots and keep it next to you when playing
2. Go to an empty or training server to practise kits and weapons or vehicles
3. Go to quiet or training server with your VOIP and mike and someone will be able to answer questions

It is very hard at the beginning but believe me worth the effort

Should capture it by default if your audio settings are correct in xfire.
Settings->Video->Record Sound

i got a spawn time greater then that on insurgency for some weitd reason, and had a larger spawn time.... i waited about 10-20 minutes and it let me spawn.

my computer is crappy enofe for me to wait.... a restart of the game takes that long 8-) 8-)

plus nomatter what, i dont think its possible to not spawn. so just logicly, you are going to spwan... just not very soon=)

Hi again. You don't have to apologize for not welcoming me Rudd and that vid had to be there. The best vid to go with that reply.
Btw...rudy_eila....you might need to change the Audio Device and Audio Mixer in the xfire video options. Thanks for the replies. I like it when there's a good community.

Also, with the bike, keep in mind that the mouse makes the bike lean for turns. If you're driving it somewhere and you start to lean and you don't want to, move the mouse in the opposite direction.

As for telling friend from foe, make sure you learn what your teams uniform looks like, and you'll in time be able to tell from a pretty good distance. If all else fails, check the map with M and see if they're blue guys.

Welcome to the forums. I hope you stick with PR; it's very rewarding when you get used to it. Oh, and don't try to take any helicopters or especially jets until you've practiced with them for an extended period of time in training mode and can land them consistently. They're a lot different then regular BF2's aircraft, they cost tickets when destroyed, and more than that they take 20 minutes to spawn. So if you crash a jet on take off or landing you'll waste tickets and really hurt your team, and that's not a good way to get people to like you

About the teamname thing...
This is a realism mod, in real life your own guys don't have big names above their heads!

Both sides wear different uniforms and use different weapons, and also you have a map to check friendly player locations.
