[Vehicle] Ka-52 Alligator

Note: Currently on hold till I have more time - I've just completed my exams but I'm still a bit busy.

I'm going to be modeling the ka-52 alligator.

Image
This is the 2-seat version of the ka-50 black shark with a wider cockpit and side-by-side arrangement. The ka-52 is quite rare in the russian military - currently 12 exist and they are used by special forces and in small numbers.

At the moment it's mid-detail at about 6k tris. I'm trying to create a version which is higher poly but it's kind of scrappy atm
Any pics and crits are appreciated, especially pictures of the main rotor ;)

just try to keep the poly count lower than the one of the Ka-50 that had already been made (14k i guess) and keep in mind that this is the "Team Alligator" since the Alligator is the Alligator ;-)

shouldnt really need to be over 8-9000 i imagine, and the lower the better....

Oleg Russia. He made a Mi-24 and a T-90 as well. Though he says he's going to make a movie.

Yeah I think it was probably too much work to get all the details on his high detail models down to lower poly ones. They were pretty incredible models though.

Right now I'm tweaking like hell and messing with the topology, I've been putting off doing the rotors until I can really concentrate on them and I want to try and get the model to smooth well in Blender.

Not a huge update... tweaked the topology and added some loops to neaten it up.

looks good so far m8, try and cut down the edges on the circular parts though, it would still look good as soon as smoothing groups are applied but it saves a ton of tris as those parts really pull up the tri count :)
secondly try and take a look at the poly flow at the rear rotor area, looks like it has a rather intense tri count for the shape of it.

really good work on the polyflow so far though, keep it up :D

Very nice. Hoping to see a higher poly model soon :D

Just a quick thought. Dunno if you need to worry about it yet, but when you optimise it finally you should look out for these. The tips seem to use up many polys when just a few are needed.

This guy knows what he is doing :)

By working with edgeloops he can quickly optimize it down to gaming quality, but keeping it like this enables him to go high poly and bake it down, or otherwise refine the shape and smoothness :)

So you guys can stop bugging him about poly count or poly distribution ;)

However... no matter how well made or awesome the model is going to end up, it will with 99% chance not be included in PR.
