Squad Leader Designated LZs

Hey guys (and girls) I been gone for a bit (work, travel, other games and etc.). So I decided to come back to PR, as it's hard to stay away for too long

. I left around 2 weeks after v.85 was released and v.86 is looking awesome.
So anyways back to the topic at hand. This isn't so much a suggestion as a question to the DEVs.
As I'm sure you are all aware the Commander has the wonderful little ability to place LZs on the map. I personally love this function as it makes it easier to tell pilots where you want to be dropped off. However, the problem is that Commanders (at least in my opinion) are a rare commodity in PR as of late (which is a sad state of affairs to say the least :cry

. Plus I'm also aware of the icons for REQUESTING HELICOPTER/APC...but the problem is these can only be placed at you feet.
So I was wondering if it were possible to make it so Squad Leaders could place their own LZ markers on the map in the same fashion as the Commander does. The letters over each Icon could be replaced by the number 1-9 (for each corresponding Squad) and is placed by opening the Squad Screen and placing it the same way you'd place another marker on the map.
As I'm not very adept with BF2 coding, I'm not sure of the "Hardcodeiness" of this idea.
P.S. You'll have to forgive me if this is in-fact a resuggestion. As I'm rather "out of it" right now(the last 2 weeks straight I've been up at 4:30am-5:00pm with about 4-5 hours of sleep each night and I'm not really thinking straight :roll

Good to be back!

If you give this to the SLs, some may exploit it and place markers all over the map.

I would say that mumble or the upcoming TS3 would suffice, but this tool couldn't hurt gameplay imo.
but 503 is right, it would need to delete the previous marker.

Yes Mumble does make life much easier on PR, but sadly many still don't use it. Still better than nothing.

Yes that was my first issue, if there was a way to limit it like with orders so that placing the marker removes the first. However I'm not sure if that possible.

I think the simple fact that you have the ability to use TeamChat negates the need for this feature.

This way they have a visual representation instead of just verbal.

This was the main reason for the suggestion.
While I completely agree that Teamchat does the same thing...but an numbered icon on the map that the pilot can see would help infinitely (much like the commander one does...but that goes back to the issue of the lack of commanders these days).

Unfortunately the SLs can't place markers directly on a map like the commander does due to engine limitations.

personally, id like to see markers that are displayed on the display. I know that infra red spotlights can be used to mark places and these can be seen with nightvision or other devices. Maybe if we could let transport choppers see certain laser markers, they could ID landing zones from the air more effectivly.

Personally, I'd like to see SLs making more use of their coloured smoke grenades.
Sure, it would be nice to have a 3d marker show up for choppers etc, but we don't really need it. IMO (Yes! I'm using txt language!! ;D) a smoke grenade can do the job perfectly when you're approaching the LZ.
If you whinge about not being able to place markers etc on the move, my response would be that the pilot shouldn't be the SL.
EDIT: To the OP: It would have been funny if you had said "Huey guys and girls".. Hehehehe

When i need extract i usually use the colored smoke(If I'm SL)
but i like the idea of the marker maybe ... I don't know how... but maybe you could make it that way you had to delete your previous one before setting a new marker ?

I completely agree that using the signal smoke is perfect....for Extractions

. What my suggestion is pertaining to is the Insertion. And RedSparrow, placing the marker on the move is a silly idea, as that's simply a distraction during flight.
However the quote from [R-DEV]dbzao below basically just pulled a head shot on my idea

:

However, I'd like to keep this thread going with other way's to implement something similar to the idea.
