Using the Point of View HAT on a Joystick set to Freelook?

Hey all, I have a question about joysticks.

Many Joysticks have a Point of View HAT that can be used to "free look" while flying. Battlefield 2, and more specifically, Project Reality, have a button for "Free mouselook". My question is, how can I somehow set my HAT buttons to do the functionality of the "Free mouselook"? I've heard of people doing this and I've even seen forums posts on other forums of people setting it up for themselves, but I'm at a loss for how to do it.

I tried using Joy2Key, which allowed my HAT key to emulate mouse movements, (A great idea in my opinion), but unfortunately once I joined PR and joined a server I was kicked a few seconds after joining due to "Corrupted Packet Flow". I'm pretty sure this is due to me running Joy2Key in the background. This does not make any sense to me because 1# it does not modify or have ANYTHING to do with Battlefield 2. Joy2Key simple reconfigures my JOYSTICK. It has nothing at all to do with anything remotely related to BF2 or Punkbuster, it just modifies what my joystick buttons do, so I dont understand why Punkbuster would even be able to see it.

Anyways, is there any way to get Joy2Key working? If not, can anyone else who has set up their HAT key tell me how they did it?

I am interested in the same thing, but don't know how to make it work either.

No idea, but I have a HAT on my joystick. For now, it's basically for weapons...

If they implement this, can they take the views out of the weapon cycle . . .

Well, I can bet that wasn't joy2key problem.

I am using Joy2key for ages, and wasn't kicked for doing that. it is legal.
However, while using the j2k, i still have to press one button to make mouse look and only then i use the HAT on the joy. Somehow didn't manage to make mouselook with one key.

Yesterday I downed my first MIG even though i don't know the difference between the rockets in the fighter plane.

I've used Joy2key for several years now, without issue.

I use a special batch file that runs two instances of Joy2Key. One has the HAT buttons set to activate a certain key (Left Control for me) that enables Mouse Look. Then, the other copy running has the HAT buttons set as the mouse.

Directions on how to do this would be appreciated.

I have seen a video where free look was enabled while being able to fly and controll the aircraft. Basically like TrackIR. No idea how its done though made.

If you do find a way to do this, let me know.

What are HAT keys anyway? I have a X52 Saitek, so im sure i have that.

Hmmm, I'd like to see Free Head movement and plane controlability implemented in future PR versions.

Hmm, maybe it wasn't a joy2key problem then... I had Steam running, which I usually dont, so that might have been what gave me the error message.

By the way a "HAT" is generally a 4 or 8 way "button" that clicks a button whenever you move it in a direction. Basically its like a mini joystick on top of your joystick. Usually it is used to "look around" while the joystick is used to fly. Here is a pic of the joystick I use, the HAT kit is the round thing on the very top of the stick in the middle

Anyways, here is Joy2Key, the program that allows you to set joystick buttons to do mouse or keyboard actions, for example you could have "button 1" activate the ctrl key or something, or you could have "button 1" move the mouse up. If you have a POV HAT, you could set "point of view HAT up" to "mouse move up" and do the same with each direction, meaning that when you move the HAT up, it will simulate moving the mouse up, just like you would to look around normally.

Anyways, heres the program I'm using. I'll post back if it works for me:

ohhh ok ok, i have two hat keys on my joystick.

That blue thing next to the Mouse button 1 is an actual joystick that acts like the mouse, use my thumb to operate, lol, its wicked!

I use it as free look in arma.

I think this is a thread that says how to do it.

However, it isn't like the tracking program above. You can't move when looking.

I seen this on another forum, it's some freeview thing using webcams, they claim they have it working with Version 1.41 and more importantly Punkbuster, the interesting thing is they are also running an app that is alowing control of air craft while using freelook

might reignite the whole headtracker implementation again
