Mysterious fps drops with .86

Ever since downloading PR .86 I have been experiencing periodic fps drops. Normally I get around 80 fps. About every two minutes my fps drops to three for 2 - 5 seconds, then goes back to normal. This doesn't feel like normal fps lag because it happens even when I am not doing anything or near anyone, and I didn't experience anything like this in .85.

Any suggestions?

Heres some specs:

Core2duo E6600
2x 8800gts in SLI
2 gb 800 ddr2 ram

I am running PR on ultra high settings and at 1680x1050. I checked temps and they are a little high but still well within the margins. I'm gonna try updating my drivers to see if that helps.

Hmmm Someone in my clan with an 8800GTS was complaining about the fps drop too.

hm ive also had this...get smooth framerates on medium/low settings then every few seconds itd drop to like 3fps and and then go back up...nothing on my screen would change.
i late realized that i left my comp on battery saver mode and not high performance...but its weird that i was still getting like ~40 fps whereas usually battery mode is just consecutive slow slow fps.

I had also same kind of problem with 0.85. In my case, something odd propgram was using CPU time. Stop all unimportant programs when you start playing PR.

i was on kozelsk, and i was running 40 FPS +\- and then suddenly i started to lag real bad, like 2 fps per second, i had to quit the game and restart to fix it. other people where complaining too.

It was in 0.86, inside an apc as gunner on kozelsk at the fireing range

I updated my drivers and cleared my bf2 cache and this seemed to fix the problem.

Might want to be more of a help than just say you are awesome.

I'm having this too but I don't have such a good videocard which might be the reason. Though where can I find the BF2 cache? Might give me a tiny increase in fps :D

It's usually helpful to know that it's not a problem with the patch, but rather a problem on the user's end.

Anyone getting the on-screen message about problems communicating with server at the time of the FPS drop?

I did get a "problems with connections" which was odd

Hmmm, I didn't get any connection problems. In fact I am 99% sure it was video lag as apposed to network lag. I was delighted to see that I did get a slightly higher fps on a few maps like Fallujah and Archer (when I didn't get the drop).

As for deleting the cache files, go to the folder that Conscript said and delete all the files in the "logocache" folder and all the files in the "dmp" folder (not the folders themselves though!).

Try the latest Nvidia driver, it may or may not have helped but I actually got a surprising FPS boost in .86. It's running better than ever.

Q6600 at 3.4
GTX 280
4gb ram
