Does the BMP-3 float in real life? I'm just wondering, because I haven't seen a BMP-3 on a map with water.

Assuming Wikipedia is correct, it should.

the dimensions are 7.14m x 2.4m x 3.2m, weighing 18,700kg.

7.14m*3.2m*2.4m*100cm*100cm*100cm = 54,835,200cm^3
18,700kg * 1000g = 18700000g

18700000g/54,835,200cm^3 = 0.341021825g/cm^3
Water = ~1.0g/cm^3

The BMP-3 is about one third the density of water.

lets just say that when going forward in water, it generates enough lift....

It is, but it does that all the time when accelerating and when turning left/right in water it behaves more like a boat/plane than a ground vehicle. Lots of possibilities for wheelies and flipping over and sinking upside down the failboat style.

Nearly every Russian vehicle can float. If configured properly, even the Vodnik floats!

All the Russians need now is an amphibious MBT and they're set for the "Global warming: The Antarctica meltdown" war.

The T90 is capable of deep fording with a snorkel. That makes the T90 as close to being amphibious as a MBT deserves to be.

Have you heard of the Soviet PT-76 light amphibious tank? It's not a MBT, but the Russians are on the right track.

Even T-55 is capable of 5,5 meters fording with snorkel ;-)

there is new one, Sprut-D(2S25), it has nearly same gun as T-90, airborn and amphibious, but there are very few of them

I'm starting to see a trend with these Soviet vehicles.

Why are amphibious vehicles so important in Russian military engineering?

To accommodate the large number of different climates in Russia.

I have seen the snorkel in Finnish tank museum. It's really bulky desing and looks more like big sever pipe. It's tricky to use fording snorkel and if it fails... It's difficult to get out from the tank if water runs inside it...

Main thing is large marshlands, woodlands, and huge amount of lakes, rivers and streams. Russian MBT:s weight is near 40-43 tons, compared with US M1A2 Abrams, 61,4 tons. If you put heavy vehicle in the swamp it get stuck easily. I know what I talk because Finland's terrain is much scimilar.
