[question] merlin lag and the door

I was wondering if the merlin lag-door association is still being worked on?
I was thinking about it when I saw a bradley's TOW launcher move in to position, are the mechanics of that similar to teh door?

i dont think so because the TOW thing only moves when some one is in the gunner seat, but the merlin door was player controlled, might answer your question

we are not sure exactly what is causing the merlin lag, the door was pretty much a guess which at first looked to solve the problem but has proved not to solve it.
We will most likly to a re-export of the merlin in time which with any luck will solve its issues.

not the only one mate, or atleast some kind of air transport would be nice.

Isn't the Merlin a PR created vehicle?
Because I noticed that both (don't sue me if I get the numbers wrong) the Merlin and the Dirtbike, which I understand were both created by the PR devs, have an inherent lag issue, possibly involving the players cache files.
Just thought it might help to find the problem.

yes the Merlin is crated by the devs and no the Dirt Bike wasn't crated by the devs, that was crated by SatNav for the BF2 Community.

I want the Lynx back... Mainly because I cant fly the Merlin, and its a bit big for Basrah?

It was a bit oversized but I do miss it. 0.5 for me was the best time for the Merlin, on Basrah there was NO lag at all, but versions after that made just getting in as the driver lag the hell outta of my PC
The door I presume was mainly a novel asset for it as you could easily exit through the side doors. Could'nt the door be made pilot controlled ? maybe the lag is from another part of the aircraft being controlled by another person.
But I hope you DEVs do sort it out, its a true PR made vehicle
Never-the-less I cant wait for this RAF Chinook in development, it looks outstanding. Taliban will have a field day when they shoot one down, if they manage
Bring back air travel on Basrah

....Rhino just said that the lag was not cause by the door, so further talking about it isn't going to help.
I hope re-exporting helps it out, I really miss the doors

I wasn't here when the Merlin had doors, what was their use exactly?

Open them, inf in - take off / close it.
Co pilot was able to open/close the door with W/S button.

Rhino if you end up re-exporting it, do you have any plans of animating the side and rear doors to open and close when approaching the earth, like the landing gear?

perhaps, but it defiantly needs better lods and its wheels on the landing gear too

Hehe, I agree. It's actually one of my favourite helicopters to fly, though I rarely fly it
Hopeful to seeing that happen, though.

Yep, on Basrah give
1 Merlin with 2 crates (20-30min re-spawn time)
1 Lynx with 0 crates (10-20min re-spawn)
AND if your feeling nice, an AH Mk1 (Apache) maybe with limited 2 missiles, 1-2x FFAR pods and say, 300-600 rounds of ammo. As its not full on combat, I don't belive the Helo will fly with FULL ammo loadout

The lynx should get small ammo crates imo, teh merlin get 1 crate, and teh chinook get 2 when its in cuz of its size.
I'd LOVE a 32 version of Basrah where airbourne infantry are the focus of the game....I might go make that layer myself right now....see what they think.
