Fixing Single Objective Mode

Well if any of you have played "Single Objective" in a full server you'll know what I mean.
Right now this gamemode is too confusing for new players. For one, there is a lack of server messages telling everyone what to do; and two, the flags tend to confuse people, making them go after the flags instead of trying to destroy the target.
I suggest making the instruction messages appear more frequently, and removing all the flags so people don't get distracted.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a cool gamemode, I'm just making suggestions to make it even better, because right now it isn't all that it could be.
Any thoughts?

I think making it clearer in the loading screen would be an better option than showing the messeage repeadtly and removing the flags.

The map info in the loading screen is only up for like 5 seconds anyway.
Why not remove the flags? They're just a distraction, and ultimately split up the team so bad that only 5-6 players actually have the sense to attack the objective.

Well then it would make for a all out rush on the objectives meaning the game would be over right away and it would be kinda unrealistic unless you just had spec ops sneak up there.

Well if the entire MEC team is facing the entire USMC team, then the game wouldn't be over right away would it?

Temove the flags please. Then people would actually work together to get to the objective, and if you die, you can't just spawn 30m away from the objective. You would have to spawn back at the main base.

Thanks Rhino!
I don't see the problem in at least having more server messages, right now they show up at 5 min intervals, WAY too long. I mean, fuck, some people can't even read the AAS messages, and they show up every few seconds.
Personally, I don't have a problem figuring out the objective, I know what I'm supposed to do and I do it fine. It's the new players that are confused, and 90% of the time I end up sitting at the objective waiting for attackers that never come because they're out fighting over flags like regular fucking conquest. There really isn't a reason for Single Objective if you're going to have flags, you might as well just call it "conquest".

It annoys me when new players start swearing because of their own incompetence. They'll rudely ask what the hell they have to do, and it gets really frustrating that they have the cheek to come into our community and start demanding answers because they're too retarded to check out the site before downloading. I mean come on, it's a 750mb download, the first thing you'd do when downloading that is check out the site, surely?

Couple thought I have here:
1. all game modes need something to help orient the players to the game mode
-- voice over at strat of round
-- maybe a one time "help" event thingy
2. the targets need to be more clearly identified
-- I've got mixed feelings here; I thought half the fun would be searching out the targets, but it seems to be just chaos heh.
Not sure about removing the flags... I can see removing some of them and making some of them uncappable, but I *do* think that having a flag that can be captured, a "forward base" if you will, is a realistic and interesting game play dynamic. So perhaps removing *most* of the flags, but leaving one or two "strategically" positioned flags that are neutral is a good idea??
More discussion on this pls... we could really use some feedback and help here.

Well the 'Single Objectives' should be changed. The satellite and UAV trailer are in the same places as they are on a standard map, they are as weak as they are on a standard map and there's no real reason why anyone would want to kill them anyway (I mean come on, in PRMM they don't exactly do much -_-). All maps playing this game mode need a shuffle around so they're more linear and so the target is better placed. Targets should be stronger, and it'd be nice if we had some new models as I said.

Random placements then?

There's no doubt about it: all flags need to be removed (except for the main uncaps of course).
Just got off ANOTHER Single Objective server, and AGAIN, my entire team (and the other team) thought they'd go off and fight over flags. I'm telling you, if you're going to keep the flags, rename the gamemode back to conquest, because that is how nearly EVERY Single Objective game plays out.
Please, please remove all the flags and have more server messages. I don't see what it would hurt. I know it takes time, but there's really no sense in having new gamemodes if they aren't even used right.
Thanks

That was a fun mode. It was a shame our entire team was base raping and capping flags. Asian and I, plus a few others were all alone defending the flags. No flags would also make people value their lives more, as they would have to hike all the way to the enemy's base.

we have another type of objective mode in development, with new models and targets and such.
the current one is definitely more of a proof of concept.
I think perhaps a compromise is to:
- make all "team owned" flags uncappable
- remove some flags
- have 1 or 2 neutral flags that can be capped to allow for some tactical advantage; perhaps not on smaller maps
.. cuz I'm concerned that removing all flags is really limiting to the play dynamics that a smarter team who wants to establish a forward base can't do so.
Also .. any thougts on the best ways to make sure the player base knows about the game modes?

To your last question: Yea, more server messages. They're at a 5min interval now, I rarely even see them.
And again, flags are just going to distract players from the actual objective, which is already hard enough to figure out. I thought the purpose of new gamemodes was to escape the Conquest system, what you're talking about is Conquest with less flags and a "End the round quick" button.
To be honest, Single Objective is my least favorite gamemode because it is exactly the same as Conquest.
Take the flags away and it will make it simple for players to figure out where to go, concentrate the fighting, make Single Objective feel "Unique", and make stealth and your lives more valuable because if you die you have to walk again from your rear base.

I agree, SO on a pub is a joke. The load screen needs to be more detailed. It would be nice if when you opened the map it tols you what MODE it was and where vital targets (objectives) were. In SO there should only be 1 or 2 capture points per team. I made a longer post about this in General.
In a semi related note, in AAS mode the location names should also have a number or a letters (A, B, C..) so players know what order they are attacking in easily. On a pub earlier today new people were attacking the closest next point which in some cases was not the correct one.

Some nice ideas!
I also want to see some flags to cap to gain a tactical advantage (spawning transport vehicles or better access to the targets)! But limit the "flag fight" to a side action, like 1 or 2 flags egg mentioned.
Some nice new targets would be cool, e.g. an industrial complex (USMC has to destroy) or a dam (MECs has to destroy) or whatever.
