Would this be a good map?

Edit: In construction.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post this here, but if I'm not then forgive me and delete the post.

If it is worth it, I could start the mapping this week.

The location is Port Said (north end of the nil, Egypt)

I placed some interreting capping locations, too.

Size: 2 KM2

USA:
- 1 Cobra
- 1 or 2 hueys
- 2 Bradleys (If they cannot float (Brads), because I can't remember, 3 apcs)
- 2 boats

MEC:
- 2 BMPS
- 2 Supply trucks
- 2 Jeeps
- 2 command truck (8 seated one)
- 1 tank (if brads cannot float, remove and place 3 BMPS)

So basically the US team would have to use their Hueys wisely to set up fire bases and use teamwork. Their brads can deal with the tank and bmps. Many roads (ambushes) and open areas.

Here are some pictures.

I like it, thats a cool idea of the US having a base on a dock and moving into the city, kind of reminds me of the rock when the USMC have the helicopters on the dock and move to alcatraz that was an epic movie. Cool idea though give the US 1 cobra and 1 trans huey. and give the mec like 2 bmps, city looks too small for a tank.

I had the pleasure to visit this city years ago. It's a really nice city. Compared to the rest of Egypt, it is very modern. Fast food joints all around, stores carrying stuff from all over the world. Very clean. Not muttrah clean, but cleaner/nicer than say Ramiel and Fallujah. Have you been there? Get lots of ref photos otherwise.

I wouldn't worry about the vehicles right now. But i wouldn't mind seeing a main battle tank in a built up urban area like this. Good luck, i can't wait to see what you make of it.

Also, it's not on the Nile river. Alexandria is the city that's on the north end of the Nile. Port Said is on the north end of the Suez canal.

But controlling the Suez canal would be a great military advantage, without it they would have to go around all of Africa to get to the Persian gulf. So it fits that the US would be attempting to take the city from the MEC.

Wow, I really like the idea. It would kinda be like Muttrah City, but I think I like the layout a little more. I say go for it, get a good WIP going so we can look at in-game screenies! Like others have said, it might be a little compact for a tank, but at the same time, why not? It would be kinda fun.

Will have to switch to vista 32 bits, XP64 is making the editor crash all the time... Installing tomorrow.

And I admit a tank would be hard to manoeuver, but thats still a ''maybe we could do this''. BTW, are those abrams floating or not?

The tank would be limited to larger streets, giving a chance to the US team to flank it using smaller roads (still wondering is thats a good idea)

No, Abrams doesn't float...yet...and if you want to use the Marines on this map then you'd want to use LAV-25's, they float, and they are in game. Bradley's don't float and plus they belong to the U.S. Army.

Abrams floating, I meant brads sorry. The main idea was to have some sort of way to defeat the tank (no tow) so a bradley could make it...

So. Should I remove the tank and make it 3vs3 apcs? OR keep it 1 tank 2 apcs

LAV vs BMP ---> BMP will win in most situation. make it like 4 apc's and 2 BMP's. So if the apc's work together with an h-at team and get destroyed (both apcs) they will be still some apc's for the amercans left.

if they dont have some good h-at teams, say good bye to the usmc. Well or the cobra will get some lucky shots at the BMPs. So dont forget to place a gaskin on the map to prevent cobra spam.

AND pls PLS PLS PLEEEEASE! make a high view-range, thank you!

well my 2 cents ;D

AA noted, will place one.
High view distance was planned.

Any ideas about the APCS? 4v2 or 3v3

Well, you could probably use same amount of APC's as in muttrah.
2 Lav-25's vs 2 or 3 of the BTR-60's (not sure on the number) + the gaskin.

BMP-3's are bit too much of a challenge for the LAV's alone, due to the high rate of fire main gun + the (was it 90mm or 120mm gun?). Sure, cobra can even that up a bit but BMP-3's can fire to rather high angle unlike the BTR's.

If i was you just forget about the assets at this stage, make the map then worry about what your gonna put in it.

You're probably right Welsh.

One last thing before I launch the whole thing: the cobra can hardly last for more than 5 minutes on most servers (muttrah) I don't believe a gaskin is needed :p There will be a ton of hidden locations due to buildings close to each other without the need to put a powerfull mobile AA.

On topic, have a US spawn point on the northern side of the river. I could see the MEC just building firebases and ending the round in like 10 minutes. I know its not realistic but for balance's sake. I'd do the Marines for this map too, because the US Army would fly over etc. Whereas the Marines would come in on their boats, this also enables the LAV'25's. I could actually see snipers/LMG's (The latter is better nowadays) dominating on this map though, with the long distance and the huge canal to shoot from, all they have to do is to place themselves at the NE corner and shoot across the canal.

Besides that though...I would definitely play this map, and I'm a guy who plays insurgency 90% of the time.

It is possible to make a Bradley float, maybe we could just make it float without changing the model.

Bradley's belong to the US Army, but there is Bradley's on Fallujah West, to show the Army working with the USMC. Depends if your launching the assault from the Essex or across the river, if your launching from the Essex, then Bradley's are out of the question, if not convince the DEVs to let you have Bradleys.

This implies asking the devs to code the bradley to make it float, modify a code for one map, I doubt they will accept. Will ask them with time comes.
