This is strictly ingame, i am not refering to these guns performance in real life

1. Why does the US M4 have burst instead of auto fire? With that said whats the difference between it and the M16 in PR

2. Whats the difference between the insurgent/taliban ak47 and the other ak assault rifle (not the ak74, the ak 101 or whatever the one is with the golden clip).

m4a1 is the full auto version, and is generally issued to special forces

the soldiers depicted in PR are regular troops using the burst version

There is no differnece between the m4 and m16 ingame for gameplay reasons side from the m4 has a .5 second faster deploy time afaik.

The US M4 has burst fire to conserve ammo. After Vietnam, studies were made which showed that any sustained fire for more than 3 rounds at a time would suffer in accuracy and were generally unproductive.
So they made the M4 and M16 models fire only single shots and 3 round bursts.
There are of course full auto versions for both rifles.

M16A1 and M16A3 have full auto.
M16A2 and M16A4 have burst fire.
Standard M4 is burst fire.
M4A1 is full auto.

The difference between the two in PR is cosmetical at the moment except for a .5 second faster deploy time for the M4, and I am not sure they're going to change anything more than that.

The AK47 fires a heavy 7.62x39mm round that does alot of damage but isn't very accurate.
The AK74 fires a 5.45x39mm round more similar to the NATO 5.56x45mm one, which is more accurate but doesn't pack the same punch as the 7.62x39mm round. The AK74 magazine is made out of a type of coated plastic, and it's more orange than golden.

EDIT: Dammit rudd you ninja'd me. XD

thankyou, you too rudd for this :)
So for pr is the ak47 more powerful but less accurate or do they just look different but perform the same?

Are you asking if the two Ak's in game are different, yes they are. The Ak-47 in game, as in real life, is more powerful than accurate, the Ak-74 is more accurate but less powerful.

What he is asking is what is the difference between the -three- AKs ingame.

Your referring to the other AK that the Militia and Taliban forces use I assume?

The Russian forces in PR use the AK-74M. A updated form of the original AK-74. While the Militia and Taliban use the original. (Or not that far off.) form of the AK-74. It has the wooden furniture correct? The one with the orangish magazine that you are thinking of?

For the purposes of PR the rifles are identical as far as I am aware. The two AK-74s.

The AKM uses 7.62mm rounds as stated and tends to be less accurate on 'follow up shots' then the AK-74. Its much more less forgiving on burst fire then the AK-74. Although it will drop your target in 1-2 bullets.

The AK-74 and AK-74M are using 5.45mm and is basically equivalent to the M-16. 2-3 bullets are usually needed for a full blown kill.

Additionally, the AK-101, which was at one point used for the Chechen (Militia) Officer Kit and the MEC Grenadier kit, is an export model. Russia manufactures them for the sole purpose of selling them to other countries, and it chambers the 5.56NATO round. It is no longer in the game.

Regular troops are issued M4s with 3-round burst because it was found that when being shot at, poorly trained troops using fully automatic guns would just hold the trigger down and spray whole magazines at enemies. 3 shots was found to be the best balance between accuracy, firepower and ammuntion conservation.
