Sounds that the MANPADS should have a louder fire effect.

I would love to see some hornets in action in PR, some devs say they are overpowered, but their not they just dont know anything about assest, all they care about is infinity.

The Devs dont have an F/A-18 ingame because there isn't a USMC map for it.
Jabal - small
Barracuda - small
Fallujah - no place for planes
Tad Sae - small
Sunset - small
etc..

Gotta say i do think a map like Barracuda could possibly have a plane. I would love to see a map where we have an aircraft carrier with a plane on it.

?
Please try not to make posts like that. If you had read any of the recent news posts you would understand that the developers do not, in fact, only care about infantry.

CA F-18 ftw.....do you know how hard it is to lase a moving target yourself WHILE moving at +500kts? People say thats what makes it overpowered (insta-tank killer), but trust me, its near impossible even to lase a large building without slowing down to an EXTREMELY vulnerable speed.

Go play Combined Arms.
Their way makes it 'overpowered'. But there are balances in place otherwise to prevent them from being just -too- overpowered.

The problem with overpowered is that its very relative. Overpowered vs PR yes, but vs real life not as much. In the same sense you could say PR is underpowered. It just really depends what you compare things to whether they are overpowered or not.

I'd like to see this ingame also
the hornet is just a matter of maps that are too small. Barracuda's view distance is actually just small enough for it to be technically prevented from being a Helicopter map afaik. (Any larger and you see the carrier though, but IMO that can be remedied a bit.
What you'd need to do is move the ENTIRE carrier NW as far as you possibly can without going off the map, that now means you have gained around 100m I think. Then you set the combat zone like they are in Combined arms, i.e. Aircraft can go where they please.

You could actually move it slightly off the map a bit, so long as the actual "centers' of all the objects are on the map (if that makes any sense), but what I mean is that you could have bits of the carrier off the edge of the map.

^ thats true, but without the surrounding terrain not giving the "get back to the battle before I bitchslap you and sleep with your mum" the choppers won't be able to manouvre on the carrier at all

Yes it is overpowered Vs real life too. Just RL's flying characteristics and pilot's workload
are enough to make a BF2 engine's plane closer to space ships than reality.
But I agree that overpowered is relative. And i could correct your post by saying that Vs PR a CA's jet is overpowered. Vs CA its balanced because of the AAs.
Problem is that many people are refering to features of another mod and forget that in specific mod probably exist its counter part which keep the balance.
IE somebody said to let free the planes to go wherever they want just like CA. Interesting idea but without CA's AAs with BVR missiles i think we gonna have problems.

Not a whole lot we can do about it I'm afraid, unless I wanna dedicate another year of my life to that but well, I think 2142 is much better.

Well duh
But really, there's so much more out of bounds area that could be used, that we could have maps larger than 8x8.
Yes, LMing and getting correct LODs would be harder, but entirely possible. Just don't try to extend huge cities along that distance, and you could very easily create huge, combined arms maps.
