[?] Terragen/Geocontrol, which?

I am working on a couple of map audits, and one map of my own which I do not feel compelled to share SSs or whatever off until its in a good state or I require help. I generated my heightmap in Terragen (because I managed to get a free copy of a mate) but I've since been told that Geocontrol is better.
Any thoughts?

^ Haha

I actually really like the terrain I made in Terragen, I just kept messing around with the sliders until something I said "Hey...I could make an interesting map outta that!" came up

then I messed around with it in the BF2 editor a little bit to tidy it up.

I personally use L3DT
I've heard some good things about geocontrol, terragen is kinda "mehh" IMO but I aint used it much.
there is some info on geocontrol here:
http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12545
think there is also a tut on it somewhere on the bfeditor.org forums.
At the end of the day they all pretty much do the same thing.

Well are you just going to use these programs for heightmaps? Or are you going to use them to texture your map as well? I use terragen to texture all my maps, but I usually hand-paint my terrain. Never used terragen's heightmap generator before, how is it?

Geocontrol for terrain (unless its a RL place, in which case just download the heightdata and convert to bf2 )
Terragen in combination with PS and T-split, for colourmaps, detailmaps, overgrowth and undergrowth

l3dt is just fine for terrain as well. terragen is best for textures ( thanks to space)

That looks like a great tool. Have to give it a try.

L3DT is by far the best for Textures, colourmaps, detailmaps, and especially overgrowth and undergrowth where L3DT acturally has a feature to do that stuff where with Terragen you have to hack it to be able to do it

Im not having that argument again
L3DT does have some great features which work well with bf2, so really, as you'll be using the software so much, its probably worth giving them all a try and seeing which one is for you.
This might not be the best selling point for some of you, but DICE and several other companies, use Terragen and Geocontrol.

ahhh come on its been like 4 or so months since we last had this argument
Like I said, they all pretty much do the same thing just some do it in diffrent ways and some are slightly better at some things at others, so its really which one(s) you like best is all that matter, providing they get the job done

I agree with Rhino 100 Percent. He showed me some stuff with L3DT. The thing is just god like. I mean so accurate. and For the Price its even better. The free version gets you a nice little pack of stuff but go for the professional 90 Day version.

I think geocontrol has the best erosion system of all programs. Terraincolor creation is very easy too, and the spline too were you can cut roads into the terrain, is unbeatable.
...too bad my trial time is over
