Yo I am new to battlefield and project reality altogether.I am about to go buy bf2 today and plan on downloading PR right after i get the game installed.I like realistic games and i am currently playing Insurgency a mod for cs:s.I have a couple of questions. . .
1.Is this game more demanding for a computer then Source?I can play source fine with everything on low
2.What steps do i have to take in order to play PR. I heard the updates take a while.
3.Is it hard to get used to the controls and layout of PR.
4.Is it similer to bf2 for the xbox 360?
5.What is this mumble program i have been hearing about?is it like ventrillo? And will it allow me to talk to people ingame?

well from my experience it seems to be more demanding than source because i can run source on all highs with at least 60 frames but on PR i hav to run on all lows to avoid stutter. there is a guide to installing PR if that helps. if u hav played source it would be easy to get used to the controls. bf2 for 360 is similar to bf2 vanilla but in no way is it similar to PR. and mumble is pretty much a program where u can talk to anyone on ur team as long as ur close to them, and it has cool affects where if the guy talking is behind u, then u would hear the voice coming from behind u. sorry for the lame description of mumble but someone will soon tell u in great depth.

1 - You should be able to play it but it may be a struggle. PR is much more demanding system wise than vanilla BF2 due to greater detail on maps and generally far larger maps. Here are the recommended system specs for BF2:
Minimum Specification:
CPU: 1.7 GHz
RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500 with 128 MB of RAM
Recommended Specification for Project Reality:
CPU: 2.4 GHz
RAM: 2GB
Video Card with at least 256 MB of RAM
Supported Video Cards:
Radeon X700 (PCI-E)
Radeon X600 (PCI-E)
GeForce 6600 (PCI-E)
GeForce PCX 5900 (PCI-Ee)
GeForce 5800 Series (AGP)
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
ATI Radeon X800 PRO
ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series
ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
ATI Radeon 8500 Series
ATI Radeon X300 Series
nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
nVidia GeForce 6800 GT
nVidia GeForce 6800
nVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series
nVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
nVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series
NOTE: the above specifications and supported video cards are listed by EA as the minimum specs. Other components of a lower or higher specification may or may not work also.
NOTE: The above minimum specifications are Battlefield 2 specific. Although the Project Reality mod is based upon the BF2 engine, recent features in PR tend to be harsher on computer components. We can no longer realistically expect the min specs to play standard BF2 to be the same as Project Reality. Therefore do not be surprised if you have to turn down your graphics settings a notch or two to get a smoother gameplay experience.
2 - Here's a
link to the installation guide for PR. Basically you have to install BF2, patch to 1.41, install PR core, install PR levels.
3 - No. The controls are similar to most FPS games however where PR differs is the way your avatar and the weapons in-game actually handle. That is the part that makes it difficult to get used to, and only practice will get you there.
4 - Never tried it but im gonna say no.
5 - Mumble is a 3rd party VOIP program which allows you to talk to other players in-game much like ventrilo or TS. Where mumble differs is that it has positional audio, meaning that if I talk to you from over your left shoulder you will hear my voice as if it is actually coming from my avatar in-game. clicky here.
Welcome to PR and to the forums.

Just in case you're still confused: You do not need the PR patch, only the BF2 patch if you don't have it already.
Edit: haha, great timing. (Gray parts are now obsolete^^)

Unfortunately you will have to turn your settings down a lot to play.
But we all did that in the past, and some still do

PR is definitely more demanding than vBF2.
Source is like the most efficient engine in the world. If you have to run source on low settings, you will have a hard time with PR.

Yes, as it sounds, you'll have a problem with PR. Even I have, and I had no problems at all with BF2 - Never played a game based on source afaik, so I don't know about that. Though I could run the crysis demo on medium (with very low FPS and some bugs though, but playable). Yet, I take a very very long time loading maps in PR and got not the best performance even on low to medium settings - though I'm mainly having problem with my internet connection, that's the main reason why I don't play PR right now. The main, not internet-connected problem of mine is the RAM - 1 GB just doesn't seem to be enough anymore. The computer is too old to upgrade; I'll probably soon buy a new one.
But: PR is free. You can just try and see if it works, all you'd lose would be the time the download took - though you can do anything in that time anyway.
Ah, you installed it already. Fine then, you'll see if it works or not, once you updated PB

Punkbuster is more like the world's version of VAC, not just EA.
The first game to support Punkbuster was Return to Castle Wolfenstein, released in 2001. The first game with VAC was in 2002, with Counter Strike 1.4. If anything, VAC is a copy of Punkbuster.
