how about we get rid of it, since you can still see your teamates, and have the uav instead just light up the enemies red nametag

I think we need to rid ourselves of friendly tags. They are so hard to see through.

I think it would be nice if friendly tags only appeared when you focused directly on a teammate (like in America's Army). I personally like the minimap because I know if I'm shooting at teammates a couple hundred meters away.

I can't agree because those are usually the tags that block my view when friendly's are 200 meters behind the enemy running 50 meters in front of me but the 200 meter friendly tags block that view.

minimap is liek a pda/compass, i guess. get rid of friendly tags! id your targets before firing!

My idea: Get rid of minimap for every one.
Every one still has the M map, just make it look more like a military issue map for each level. Only you're position and squad objective are displayed
The squad leader has a pda, that works kinda like the one in doom 3, you right click, it brings up a view like the normal M map, but its more detailed and has all the enemy movement and everything.
I don't know how possible that is to do... but thats my idea.
Untill we make a PDA that is somehow used by a squad leader only class.... oh well... just keep miniimaps.

agreed.
and i'd like to get rid of minimap completly. so you have to push M to see main map. and only have targets sighted by squad leader/squad memebers/commander show up on main map. make the team work together.

If you take away the dynamic map, everyone will make their own squads just to get it back. If you want teams to work together, let them know where their friends are and keep the minimap. If you personally want to get rid of it for cosmetic reasons, adjust the transparency to 100% in the options menu or something.

I would just get rid of the minimap, its not needed the map(M) does the exact same job and gives you a much better picture of where everyone is.
Malik, I have my minimap at about 80% transparancy because its just way to big, it take up a whole chunk of the screen where you CANT see your enviroment which is a bonus for the enemy.

I have mine on 33% and I'm always pressing 'N'. When engaging forces I have it on the highest zoom so I can spot friendlies and any spotted foes are shown to me. I'm good at judging distances on the map to their exact locations on the field so spotted foes are easy targets for me. When I'm driving, I like to have the zoomed out version so I can see where I'm going. The other one is for short distance travelling where I need some detail too.
I say it should be kept. If people don't like it, they can remove it and rely on the map only. If people like it, they can keep it.

Dont remove minimap. make it more transparent instead, and then let the nametags of friendly soldiers only shown when you are pointing at them!

You can make it transparent yourself. But why shouldnt it be removed? You dont have a floating realtime minimap in front of your face in real life.
Theres an artical I read somewhere I dont have the link, but it was about the affects of HUD's in game, 3D enviroments feel more like 2D, you become less aware of your suroundings and in general they just rewin the feel of the game.
If PR were to keep the minimap it needs to be changed because right now its way to big a distraction.
But I see no reason to keep it as I mentioned the map does the job much better then the minimap

The HUD is there because as such it's impossible to transmit information that the real player would know into their minds other than with sight. Yes, they could have a voice over calling out information the player would know such as 'YOU'RE USING THE AK-47 ON FULL AUTO MODE', but that'd be inpractical. In real life you just look at your weapon to know that, but unless the devs implement a load of animations so you can check out almost any detail that the HUD shows I don't think it should leave. Like I said, if you hate it, take it off, but this is a game, a realistic game, but nonetheless a game and thus it should be treated as one. It's not supposed to be total immersion.

Did you read the part about the map, im all for keeping a HUD, knowing how many magazines I have and what mode my weapon is on is essensial but why have something in the HUD (minimap in this case) if theres already something better there?

Hmm true, what about the posability of the minimap only working in vehicles?

Because when you're looking at the map you can't see anything at all? The minimap gives you both, it needn't go anywhere.

Erm yes you can, press M you can still see around you and you can still move. Remember this is a realism mod, a minimap isnt realistic, haveing to stop and look at you map is. Also you can still see, move and shoot with the map open.

Having a big, square, electronic dynamic map is as realistic as having a wrist mounted version of it or something. If you expect me to fight while 90% of my screen is covered you've got another thing coming, it's not possible. As the saying goes, if it's not broken, don't fix it, and the minimap certainly isn't broken. PR isn't about ripping out all the features that aren't real, it's still a game and that sort of thing is needed to make it playable.
