BF2 1.3 reviewed (kinda)

I downloaded, played it on vBF2 and decided to take some screenies so those who haven't got it yet no what to expect. Firstly, we have the vehicle drop. Here's some pictures of me having fun with it.

Image
That's the new Commander HUD.
Image
There it is in the Commander's rose.
Image
Express delivery! Arrived within the second on a single parachute. Mmm, realism!
Image
Yes, it is indeed possible to land those things on roofs. They're innaccurate, but with some trial and error you can do it. We had some fun. :)
Image
Bottoms up... or down. No, it didn't land on me but I managed to kill a few people with my humvves. :)
Image
As you can see, these may become a bit of a problem (notice the nice wide range the driver has, and how two can fit up there).
Image
Same as above. Those things are going to get on people's nerves. :)
Image
Accidents can and will happen. Be warned.
Image
That humvee's got skillz. A perfect landing from a 180 degree roll.
Image
That's just a burning car on a roof. Best bit about this picture is my shock paddles kill and the beautiful L85A1 (hurry up with 1.0 devs, I don't like having to play with those noobs just to use it :( ).
Image
Finally, there we have the player request for a supply drop. It should be noted the new USMC request voice for the flying cars sounds almost German. It really doesn't sound American at all. The commander one is very similar and the radio lady sounds pretty much the same. Talk about inconsistency...

As for the anti squad hopping, it's alright really. When you're dead you're not allowed to join a squad, it's that simple and I like it. I don't see what all the fuss was about really...

So, to make this a suggestion thread:

The vehicle drops currently aren't that bad. For the quick fix I strongly recommend you remove them until 0.4 when you've had time to alter them a fair bit. As it is (and much like everything DICE does) they suck at the moment. They recharge faster than the supply boxes and you can have two at a time. It's not the fact you can put them anywhere, it's the fact you can put them anywhere at anytime. If you're on a roof, call in a humvee! They'll ruin PRMM, unless something's done. I suggest:

1) Increase the timer. A lot. They spawn way to quickly and you can just keep dropping them as they blow up. It's no fun.
2) Increase the delay. Seriously, you can't just press a button and a humvee appears 10m above your position on a parachute no larger than that of one used by humans. There needs to be a delay so you have to PROTECT THEIR ARRIVAL. I've been preaching about this for supply crates, but it's really revelant here, especially with the added goodies PRMM cars have. If a squad wants a ride they need to secure a landing area.
3) And please, get a new voice over. When you hear it, you'll see what I mean.

Everything else looks good, and despite the major changes there's probably some other bug fixes underneath. I don't think I saw any of the usual glitches which is nice, and a lot of people commented on how their framerates are better, I must say I had no video lag at all either.

Oh, and on my brief stay on vBF2 I realised a couple things about PRMM. We need shotguns back! Despite all the bunny hoppers and prone spammers I still managed to waste a ton of them with my remmy. Please, bring it back. :'(

So yeah, check it out. :)

I never got round to trying it with PRMM, I was more interested in first hand trying out the new stuff. I'll do some minor bug testing tomorrow or something. :)

Hmm, I'm also going to suggest HAHO drops for the jeeps too. As with the supply crates, they should be dropped from a much higher altitude, even higher than the UAV. That way cars can not only be shot down but also boarded from midair, James Bond style. :)

My suggestion would be to NEVER incorperate vehicle drops.

No commander enabled on my server anyway so no problem there. As for the squad hopping change... good. :-D

If they could be done with some semblance of realism, I might be for it. Also, I think you should get either 2 for the whole battle or have a very long recharge rate before you can drop again.

Parachute looks a bit to small to hold a vehicle

That's EA for you all their humvees weigh about 150 pounds plus you can attach parachutes to the .50 Cal and have it hold the humvee when it appears out of thin air 10m's above the ground.

You know what id love to see. A hercules on El Alamein, where you can drive the Jeeps into the loading bay at the back.

*carries on dreaming*

the maps are far too small!!!! this isn't Joint Ops with maps extending out tens of miles :) There it was fun driving jeeps and buggies out of planes at strange altitudes for a laugh, then jumping off them and your chute opening (if you equipped one!)

HAH, me and my mate took jumping out of choppers further :P
We used a boat and jumped into the water, no damage then :D
