Mumble Error

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, and I didn't find anything searching for a similar problem I have.

Interested to get into PR again and I heard about Mumble. So, I download the file and have no problems installing it by following the guide. But I don't even get to step 3 ^^ When I try to run it it just gives me this error:

http://img204.imageshack.us/i/mumbleerror.jpg/

I have absolutely no idea how to fix this. I already tried reinstalling etc but it still won't run.

Help would be greatly appreciated :)

I noticed you don't have any system specs listed.

If you are using windows Vista or Win 7, try installing and running as an administrator

Also, you are refering to step 3 in the PR mumble guide, right? PRmumble 0.5beta?

If this isn't your OS or solves your problems, let me know what your running....
I haven't run into this problem yet, but I'd like to help

Bah sorry. I use a 3+ year old Dell at the moment since my other rig got burnt by lightning a while back.

This is what I use at the moment -_-

Win XP SP3 32bit
Pentium D 3.2GHz
Motherboard = Unknown, some random Intel **** lol
2GB RAM
ATI X1900XTX 512
X-Fi Soundcard

Yeah, I'm refering to the PRMumble guide steps. The error only appears when I rightclick and run it as administrator, if I click on the actual shortcut nothing happens.

None of the guides out there mentions anything about placing Mumble in a specific folder so that shouldn't be a problem (I mean so it can "initialize a database" or whatever that is supposed to mean).

Where did you download from? if you can try a different mirror to make sure it wasn't a bad download.

The only other thing I can think of is installing vanilla mumble from mumble's site to see if that will install, you won't be able to use that on the PR server, but it could at least tell us if the problem is in the PR mumble or a base problem.

Do you have any anti-virus software?
How about any software firewalls? Hardware firewalls?
Check you events log and see if anything was logged about mumble not being able to start.

How to View Event Logs
1. To open Event Viewer, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, then click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. Or, open the MMC containing the Event Viewer snap-in.
In the console tree, click Event Viewer.

I have tried different mirrors and the error still shows. Vanilla Mumble is actually working flawlessly but somehow PRmumble just won't work.

Yeah I got AVG Anti-virus and Ad-aware. I've tried disabling them but still no success.

I have added mumble as exceptions in the windows firewall. I don't use anything else on this computer so I don't think that's the problem. The event logs shows nothing regarding PRmumble either.

hmm, if vanilla mumble is working fine then I really haven't got a clue. But I expect this will be a very useful bug report for R-DEV Twisted

Yeah and no one seems to have a similar problem. Guess I'll have to play without mumble and see if i/someone manages to solve this.

Thanks alot for your help though guys, appreciate it =)

Try one last thing before you go.

Try starting up in SAFE mode and see if it works there. If it does, than it might be one of the processes that are running.

Can't imagine something specific to PRmumble 0.5 preventing it from working. That is odd.

Hmm I think you're onto something ;p When I rebooted the computer I didn't manage to get into safemode the first time, so I let it boot normally. I tried to start PRmumble as fast as I could (before any processes could run basically), and by surprise, it actually started ^^

It won't start if I let the computer idle for like for a few seconds (or if I close mumble and try to run it again), so its probably a process interfering with mumble. Thanks! ^^

OUT FOX EM wrote:Well I found out what was causing the issue. It took awhile to hunt down but I found out the QWAVE (Quality Windows Audio Video Experience) service was the culprit. I disabled that and I'm good to go. I don't know what repercussions will come about from disabling the service, but all videos, games, music sound fine, and plus now I can join Mumble again.
Check to make sure this process isn't running on your computer. It shouldn't be since you're running XP, but since I've run into this before, thought I'd suggest it.

To get a better explanation, you should be able to click next to the original posters name to pull up the thread

Haha that's odd, PRmumble is working fine now :D I saw he was running Media Center Edition and so do I (I see I didn't mention it in my previous posts), and it seems I had that QWAVE service running as well.

I just disabled it and everything is working absolutely fine.

So hats off & thank you very much =)

Yep its a bizarre one that (the QWAVE thing), because mumble doesn't actually use it ... only the Murmur server version does, and only on Win(Vista) 2008 ...

No idea why it interferes with it on XP media edition.
