[Model] Russian Aircraft Carrier [WIP]

This is only the base model so far, alot of what you can see here are just the placeholder models, so I can get a decent grasp of what it will look like once the details are added in etc and allows me to get the right scale of things. Still has alot of work before anywhere near completion. Please, let me know what you think of it so far...

Wow, that looks... big.
Hardly get to see a model that size but it looks pretty good to me.
Good luck with this, a well as the Player models, Snatch, Map and whatever else you may be working on.

why on earth are you adding rails and other small details before you have even got the core shape right?

EDIT: My advice is to start with the main body, get the very fundamental components etc all done and dusted such as the hull, the flight deck with deck markings, the island, then move onto the mid-level detail (radars etc) then move onto the fine detail.

you might want to look at these posts I made here too: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f388-c ... post695517

I still believe your making a huge mistake making this carrier without proper experience of making any static objects before hand. At least make a house or something first (even thou I would class a house as a large project to get to grips with how statics work) and get that 100% done and dusted before you think about making something like this.

believe me you may not see it now but even if you do get this model to a point where you think its finished, your going to have some many nit picky things that will need to be fixed it will simply be an overwhelming amount of rework and it would probably be easier to start from scratch. Believe me or not, trust me when I say I've seen it happen many a time.

I have looked into texture pallets and creating the model inorder to accommodate for this. I have also tried creating a few road signs to get a feel for this and have found it surprisingly easy to get used to. But as far as the different layers etc are concerned, I feel rather comfortable with them and understand them fully. I am using the current bf2 carrier as inspiration for creating my carrier. I firstly interrogated the entire model all the way through to understand how the model is set out, IE what you mentioned in your post. This way, I have been creating my carrier along the same basis, to prevent any dramas within the future.

i was going to use the current Large tanker found in Muttrah as the russians aircraft carrier in my map.(not in the modding section as i had to stop due to vista problems.)

yep well dont say I didn't warn you if there is lots of things you need to rework when it comes to finalizing it.

GL all the same.

btw squaddie you may find this link useful: Large aircraft carriers compared - Military Photos

Also if you are making this I would also make it so it can easily be changed to a Chinese version, by a matter of just swapping some things around etc and also I wouldn't worry about modelling a AK-630 CIWS for now :)

Also here is a nice pic (which you can find in that topic above later on) on the missile silos for thous anti-ship missiles that thing carries :)

Thou it says in that link above that the Su-33 is more of a fleet defence aircraft rather than a power projection aircraft like the F-18 is but I see no reason for it to be able to assist in a amphibious assault.

Also you do know that the carrier alone can not do a full-on amphibious assault, you need amphibious assault ships etc to be able to do that.

biggest problem with SU-33 on Kuznetsov is that they cant take off with full load of weapons and fuel because of no catapults. So if it will be implemented you should limit their armament ;)

what kind of ships do you mean? like this:

Why may I ask? Has someone already created these? I was thinking about doing them once the frame of the hull is entirely complete, then I would start on the main details. Although with my unusual way of modeling, I will probably begin modeling them without finishing the main body :p

Cheers for the link aswell, will come in useful. I have found loads of good reference pictures, but haven’t found any of the actual ships interior. Ive had an idea of making parts of the island accessible aswell as areas below the deck. Im not sure wither the Bf2 engine is capable of this, but if I create a carrier level, is there a way to make the 'plates' move up and down allowing an aircraft to start in the hanger and then move up onto the actual strip itself?

QUOTE - Other than air defence, the duties of the Su-33 include destruction of enemy ASW, AWACS, and transport aircraft, anti-shipping strike, support of amphibious landing, escort, reconnaissance, and laying of minefields.

According to Wikipedia, the su-33 can carry laser guided air-to-ground bombs, however the aircraft cannot take off the carrier properly at maximum weight, so this may need to be accommodated for when it comes to implementing it in game, probably by limiting the amount of armaments the actual thing carries.

I also realise that the actual ship itself does not have a hull vehicle storage area so to speak, unlike the carrier currently in bf2. This is a big flaw, however there is no reason for us not to change the carrier to accommodate this. (there no harm in bending the truth a little to allow for better game play aye ;) )

imagine this:

russians vs taliban on a 4km map, insurgency mode, with a russian ship that spits out helicopters and bomber jets.

a man can dream.

You should leave them to be modeled separately so that they may be used as vehicles possibly, or at the very least easily swapped with Chinese variants, is what I believe Rhino is saying.

Yes there is, when mappers use triggerables. Though I all moving parts and all controls for them will need to be modeled separately.
I also realise that the actual ship itself does not have a hull vehicle storage area so to speak, unlike the carrier currently in bf2. It doesn't have a hull storage IRL? I wouldn't see why not, especially considering it uses a jump deck, meaning that there is far less parking space. And what would the two edge lifts be used for otherwise? :P (http://i33.tinypic.com/2w6zdw0.jpg).

Also, if you make it so that it can easily be made into it's Chinese variant, it would be much easier to use ingame, considering Z-trooper's still making the assault carrier for the PLANM. Finally let's have some show of OpFor might :D
