Map idea: Storm-333

Hello, everyone. How do you like the idea of implementing this operation:
Operation Storm-333 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I know that BF2 and PR trying to simulate modern battlefield, but why we cant make step forward? I think, that simulating events, which happened 30 years ago is not a big pay for true realism :) So, we have a real map, real factions, event, which really happens. We have all weapons and vehicles used there (at least, most part of them). Almost paradise :)
Look at pictures, read docs and maybe you'll agree with me - this is perfect infantry map!
Not traditional infantry style, but more close combat, i agree. But why can't we make a new game mode or something?

p.s. even loss count from Afghan side looks like tickets count - about 200.

You are asking for more then a mapping job (which is a lot to ask for by it self.) You ask for custom factions, skins, statics, and everything in between.

I'm pretty sure no one is willing to do this for you.

If it is really as easy as you make it out to be, do it yourself. Assemble a team of skinners and modelers, and have a go at it.

Don't understand what are You talking about. We have MEC faction, which embodies all middle east countries. And we have taliban faction (which is arise in Afghan after USSR troops leaving it). All weapons, which were used in this battle, are the same as in every russian map. Maybe a little older versions, but it's not hard to create i think.
Vehicles - 3 bmp (or btr) and Shilka.
We almost have all this.
Statics - yes, but i think it is common practice to create new statics for new map, no?

Who said, that i meant this? I just wanted to discuss idea with community. And if people find it cool, then i can start do something.

And i don't said that it will be easy :) I'm just mentioned, that we have a lot of things ready for this map.

Stopped reading from there,
Why did You stopped? :) Go on! This is not that kind of special forces, which You may thinked about. Not a SWAT or something. Yes, they was specially trained, but in this operation they were equipped as normal soldiers. They even were dressed like Afghan troops, to disorient defending side. So, no special equipment etc.

Did you expect people to start fighting over who gets to make his map for him? The fact is there are way more map ideas flying around then there are mappers to actually create them. So throwing up a wiki link and saying it would be a cool map isn't going to create much of a stir in the community.

I would suggest at least doing some research and gathering some reference photos, maybe create a basic layout of the map in paint, find real sat photos in google earth, or whatever. I'm sure you would still get the immediate response of 'do it yourself' but who knows, you might just catch the eye of some mapper and your map could be made. But, as it stands now, reading a sentence off a wiki page doesn't really say anything about what kind of map it would be. If your hoping someone will spends months working on your map, the least you could do is spend a few hours researching and planning it.

Well, i have to say it again:
I DONT EXPECT THAT SOMEONE DO THIS!
Where did you read this? I'm proposing the idea of map and planning to do it myself. But before, i want to know what people thinking about. Maybe the idea of implementing old battles is so unusual for PR, that my map could never be used. Then why i should start it? You got my point?

About researches and photoes, yes, maybe You right. I should attach it here, because not everyone can use google :)

I was going to post something 'mean' but I decided not to. It all boils down to this:

Ideas do not impress, however hard work does.

Strength:

Soviet:
30 from Alpha Group
30 from Vympel Group
520 "Muslim" battalion
80 marines
Total: 660

Afghan:
2,500 including Amin's personal bodyguard

Result: Soviet victory, overthrow and death of Hafizullah Amin

= EPIC FAIL

Sorry, i didn't see anything to indicate you would be mapping it. But, my post was mostly directed at Troopers comment about the 'do it yourself' attitude.

As for the map idea. I say you should go for it. Nothing new would be needed. From what i understand the Russians (already in game) attacked Afghan(later called taliban) positions and in the end killed their leader. It seems like a simple AAS map setup with the Taliban main being a palace.

If you want to do it yourself then you're posting in the wrong forum..

You should post it here:
Community Maps - Project Reality Forums

PR suggestions forum is not the proper place for community made maps. I guess it's the reason why some people thought you're not going to do it by your self.... suggestions forum is a place for suggestions from the community to the DEV team.... 8)

I have read some documents and realise that this battle was more complicated operation, than just infantry assault of a palace. It can be a good large AAS map! I will search some more info, translate it to eng. and post later.
Thanks for Your attention, guys.

Ohhh, so complicated..
In the beginning i have read this from [R-DEV]fuzzhead:
Please only post in this section (Community Maps) if you have started progress on a map. That means the map is at any stage in the bf2 editor. Please do not post map ideas here, this is for Work In Progress only, use the PR Suggestions or Community Modding forums for talking about map ideas or concepts.
So, i decided to post it in general Community Modding thread, because its just on "idea level" for now. Then it was moved by admins to this thread. And now You tell me that i shoud post it in Community Maps.

Where ever it was posted, you should have been more clear on the fact that you're planing on doing the map yourself. Without saying that, and it being posted in suggestions, we just assumed the worst. But, it's all cleared up now, so you can focus on your map and forget about this confusion.
