Forest maps and sniping

I've got big problems with finding good spot there. Can't see anything further than 200m because of the trees from most possible, not-obvious for the enemy spots, often see the enemy all of sudden less than 100m from me without any previous warning which often ends up with me being dead because of no ghillie. These maps seem just seem to be really crowded. :)

Are these maps ( like Fools Road and other which names I don't remember... assault on Mestia? something like that?) just unsuitable for sniping? Or there's some secret way?

Fools Road should be pretty good for sniping. Hide in a forest overlooking a valley or road and pop them off as they come in. but Ghost Train... I dont think theres much you can do there. Apart from that one hill. But your in the most obvious spot ever.

But than again, Im not a sniper player.

That's not the case.

ghost train is not a very sniper friendly map this is true.
the only real place where a sniper rifle is useful is watching the river to pick off enemies trying to cross.
the small size of the map also means the enemy is much more likely to run into you.
fools road is fun to snipe, especially open places like the train station or if the russians advance all the way to the chechnyan fortress you can pick off the guys manning the anti tank guns.

in kozelsk you can also do alot of sniping in the lower right quarter of the map since the trees here are pretty far apart and the map is fairly level allowing long lines of sight.

basically, a flat map is better than a hilly one, and a large one is better than a small one.

and do us a favour and dont snipe from the top of that hill in ghost train. when i snipe on the map, i always shoot three people off that at least.

Forrested maps and sniping dont mix. Imo there is no use for snipers in this maps (esp. Fools/Mestia/Bi Ming/Ghost/Tad Sae). If you like long range shots, get a marksman and support a squad.

A good sniper is a HUGE asset to his team, if he collect intel and sends it to his commander that will make a difference.

Being a sniper takes skill. Pre planning your route and your objectives, have an eagles eye when scoped and un-scoped. Have great timing and agility to avoid confrontation with the enemy. Make use of your environments and hide behind trees, in bushes, from caves; but don't use hills too much. Your silhouette against the sky will get you killed. Patient and conservative. Stay in close communication with your team and commander. Recognize your targets before firing to avoid friendly fire and make a habit of killing high priority targets first.

The best sniper is one that can screw up an enemy squad with just one shot, i.e. shooting the medic or Squad Leader, resulting in squad co-ordination breakdown. Can hide amongst an enemy squad on jungle maps with loads of foliage without them even knowing. Can actually mark targets for air-support. Never heard and never seen. Ability to make quick decisive decisions with the risk of death in one hand and successfully seeing it through.

Basically you have to be God. And snipe from the clouds. :)

apart from all the sniper stereotypes there is some truth in that.

also remember, that you want to shoot someone somewhere they can't be rezzed.

Reconing with a sniper rifle is terrible in a forest map. You would recon much better with an officer kit or even just a basic scoped rifleman.

Fools Road may be an exception though. Great view distance on that map.

For OGT, I always use the sniper like another DM rifle, stick with the squad and such, and occasionally set traps: The crack of a sniper rifle triggers a primal response in a lot of players that causes them to ignore objectives and head for the noise in the hope of killing that specific soldier, and once they surround and knife me (I have been shot by a normal rifleman twice. EVER. with a sniper kit. They always knife me.), my squad pops out of cover, slaughters the enemy squad, cycles my rifle back to me, and the cycle begins again.

Fools depends highly on the side I'm on, as I don't much care for the Rebel sniper, but it still has the same psychological effect on the enemy, because it sounds different than the standard rifle. The Russian rifle is much better, and can work well to find some ******* place to hide and pick off the enemy, as well as warn our precious armor where those spandies are. But because it's a forest map with no ghillie, shoot and scoot becomes of the utmost importance.

I find on fools road if you go to north of hill 155 you tend you get chechens up your *** all the time. Sometimes the most obvious places are best. Look for elevated positios with small openings on the trees that overlook frequently traveled routes. Trees are your friend. Heres my number 1 rule. If you kill 2 out of 3 people you just saw , move. He WILL find you eventually.

Snipers on maps like Bi Ming are pretty much a waste unless in very speficic locations. They can't enage from far away because of terrain and foliage, so they come in to the effective range of assault rifles.

Thus they die.

Fools road is good because you can sit on an opposite mountain.

Snipers can be very useful on open maps, but you might as well go medic or marksman as others have said on maps with small VDs and obstructions.

I ALWAYS hear that, but everyone ingame has binocs, so anyone really can relay intel information to the CO and would do a much better job than the sniper because they are more mobile IMO rather than static. Plus, you don't need a long range rifle to get a lot of kills ingame. I do that just fine with the regular weapons and ambushing.

As already said, you can stop the movements of whole squads just by taking out one of them. And he has a laser designator which helps you to observe areas in greater distances and of course to laze objects. But its stupid to go sniper in dense wood or urban maps.
Imo Fools and Qinling are the only two forest maps that work for snipers. Wouldnt bother if the kit gets removed on the other ones.

Witch CO UAV in the next patch, snipzor can recon and tel him where to scout with the UAV, but then again, you can do the same with rifleman...

Bi ming is a very good sniper map. It has alot of choke points and a sniper can really hold off an enemy advance better than the eest of the team. Take one of my rounds on bi ming where me and another sniping held the enemy from crossing the bridge and got a combined score of 30-0.That was more than a third of our teams kills.

Most of this doesn't apply in PR, unfortunately.
