Community Update - 5/25/06
Attention Soldiers and Server Admins!
After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.
We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this change has taken place.
Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.
The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as they become available."
Thank you,
/The team at Dice and EA

In other words, "If you want your game to stop crashing, please get rid of ABR, lol!"

its not been "pulled" they are simply bringing down the hosts for "fixing" which obviously means "hit with a hammer".

Thing is, they say the TCD issues are due to ABR. How on earth would they know this unless it was deliberate?

Exactly, and in a page on their site they said they are going to be cracking down on alternate-ranking. Sad to see them do this to ABR.

Nice, in the mean time 1.3 servers of PRRM keep crashing in the middle of the rounds. Sadly I can't run 1.22 because I have to play clanmatches with 1.3 and reinstalling after every match is a bit too much.
They should fire the entire QA team over there.

why does EA care about ABR? they wont give us the tools to use their ranking, so we have alternate ways to keep tracks of our stats on mods, then they decide to eff that up too? seriously, wtf EA? what happeened to community support?

Yeah, I think this a little more than conspiracy theory. I really think that they are purposly and systematically thwarting mod teams and anything "not EA/Dice" that has something better or different from them. I see no harm in alternate gameplay or stats. If anything, it strengthens the player base of their game and causes more people to play and talk and get others to buy it.
Look at the Rainbow 6 series of games. All the mods that they had until R6 3. Once the community realized that there was no support for the mod cummunity in R6 3, mod teams moved to different engines and the game died a quick death. The short-lived expansion, Athena sword was barely an infant when R6 3 took a nose dive.
They must think we won't buy their "booster/expansions" if we have potentially better mods with the stat system in place and new and refreshing game modes. I personally won't buy anymore booster packs because I won't pay 10 or 20 bucks for a couple of maps and some goodies, when they can't even get the base product right. And when they pull this ****, I feel even less apt to buy a future EA/Dice game(BF 2142), knowing the restrictions that are already starting.
In fact I will hold off on buying 2142 until I see some support and no restrictions, like we are seeing here.

Ghost1800 wrote:ummmm.... community support went downhill right before 1.12 IMO... really i think the people who originally made the game were great at their job, but all updates and add-ons are produced by a seperate department. Thats right, if your wondering why they dont know their own code its because it ISNT there own code, they just cost less to pay for continued support then the original team (i might have mixed this up but the original team was based in sweden, while the current team is based in canada). The original team is currently working on 2142 and i suspect that once they complete that, theyll give the canadian branch control over the new game... what happens to BF2 is unknown but i doubt it could be good.
As for EA's response to alternative ranking, its starting to remind me of Blizzard. They started out simple and subtle by removing some of the major "draw" factors for mods, but when they kept succeeding... well im sure some google searching might turn that up, its a long sad story.
BTW, im still learning things about PRMM. I know that ABR is a way of ranking people but do i have to download it or is it a server thing only?
ABR uhm .com? i think haha, if you wonder why you rank up several times while playing, you have to DL something from ABR, have it open then go to your BFHQ,
personally, i only like having my stats tracked, i dont care about rank or badges it makes people play for the wrong reasons imho

I see this as a weak excuse for the realisation that everything about the patch is terrible, and they use the server browsing as a scapegoat for their reversions.
What about the crashes to desktop that everyone experiences every 30 mins? The say its the server browers so that thier new patch doesn't seem too bad.
Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.
I read this as a lie. That's my opinion. EA don't want ABR in existence, so they chuck this little lie out there just to influence a small section of the server hosting community, so that ABR is in less and less use.
Personally, I don't care either way for ABR. I'm probably leaning the way of ABR not being a good thing in ranked servers.

Ghost1800 wrote:well does it track stats according to class played? I really just wanna see what classes I do better with statistically, because sometimes i cant tell when im going through a level capturing flags and running into maybe 5 enemies total.
goto bf2tracker.com and lookup your vanilla stats there, there is a drop down tab for PRmm that will show you everything you have done on a ranked server, without having to run the abr script or whatever it is
