I have been wondering this for a while now.

It's the same on most maps IIRC.

It was also done to spite the overly analytical types

Oh, I thought it was an evening map and it was setting in the north.

Yeah, it's like that on most maps. I believe it was the lighting on this map though, at least that was said in a similar thread times ago

me, the winner of the quoted thread wrote:
Yeah, the sun either rises or sets in the north. The mapper probably sacrificed accuracy so shadows would go the way he wanted. (most likely so the beaches and the docks get light)
And thus, I declare this thread won!

Also, sun tends to still shine through rocks and mountains.

iirc thats just BF2's fault, you know how the land sometimes morphs? The sun comes through, and its made worse by the bf2 sunflare effect.

Last time someone made a thread about the placement of the sun, okita got angry. You dont want to see okita angry.

This is why I love mapping for Star Wars, I am not bound by reality

I think it's obvious the sun was placed where it is for game play purposes.

What's okita? Sounds like a disease.

Whilst we all agree that the Sun shouldn't really be in the North its not exactly a critical thing that changes the map entirely. If the sun was in the East or West then all (smart) pilots would do is fly from those directions instead

Do not think about the wrong placement of the sun. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth.
There is no sun.

i never noticed this before. but i guess, like waldo said, its for lighting purposes. if this is taking away from gameplay for some people, they need to go outside for a little while...

Instead of moving the sun, why not move the compass so that east or west matches up with the sun? The map would still be the same, but it'd have to be roasted 90 degrees.
Just a suggestion for future maps. I don't think we would want to have to reorient ourselves in every map just so that the sun is in the right place.
