status on the overheating

Im suggetring some kind of status for the overheating for the weapons on vehicles (not talking about 50cals on Hummves or LandRovers or whatever, talking mainly about the ones on the apcs)

I find it realy annoying when you are in a firefight that in all of sudden your main cannon doesnt want to shoot anymore. So some kind of a status bar showing the overheating status would be cool. I rly dont know how it is out there in the real vehicles, but I could imagine that there is some kind of temperature sensor which is giving you some status about the temperature.

Second if thing if the first is not realistic. Give it atleast a red light or something while it is overheated. This is the most annoying part. You wait and wait and wait because it is overheated and then you shoot one time to test, if it is still overheated... *tssssssssssss* And again 2minutes or so of waiting again >.>

Problems I see:

1. Cant be seperatet for vehicle ergo would have to be also on insurgency technicals (lol)
2. not realistic (dont think so...)

btw. sry if already suggested but I searched in the *** thread for this and the only thing I've found was "removing the overheating" which is a nono and is in my opinion something different what I suggested here...

i cant imagine something like this in a normal mounted machine gun.
i've never used an apc gun, but are you honestly telling me that a vehicle with that kind of equipment doesn't have a temperature sensor on its barrel somewhere?
at least on those kind of vehicles i would expect some sort of sensor, at least a beeping when its about to overheat.

I agree that a representation is needed other than the current incarnation since you're never quite sure how near to overheated you are. A small red dot (my answer to everything these days it seems) in the corner of the screen might suffice.

never heard\seen about overheat sensors on cannon barrels
there is no such thing for example on a BMP-2 and how much you can fire is described in field manual with signs of overheating(delays in fire, jams etc.)

as op stated, a big pain in the *** is when it overheats, and you wait for it to be done.
then you fire once and you get insta overheat again.

Why not part of the barrel starts to get a tad red?

If we could have the barrel actually start to glow a little, even just for the gunner, that would be pretty awesome.

Failing that, a small temp gauge would probably suffice.

apc gunners really need to use shorter 3-5 round killing bursts, and not the 10-15 round sustained rate of fire

why? because ingame it overheats too fast? then i would say increase the overheating time

If the gun is over heating you wont know till the round in the chamber goes off in your face or (depending on the type of gun and the metal its made of) the barrel might glow slightly. You would hear it "ticking" though as it cools. I personally like how it is now (I would like it also if they added heat effects to the model of the gun after you shoot it) I find that if you just use small few round bursts and NEVER just hold it down then you almost never over heat. Even if you’re just providing cover fire the effects of having a 50-cal shoot in your direction disorients you for a long time.

We dont have any of these signs in PR...

Its not the problem about "trigger happy".

The main problem is that you dont know how long you are overheated. And if you fire 1second after it starts cooling down it is instant overheated for 2minutes AGAIN! Thats not realistic but we cant change it. So the solution would be to add some status bar (or only a little red dot in the right corner) to indicate the temp status of the gun.

The problem with the whole overheating thing is that it doesn't affect any weapon except mounted machine guns or apc cannons. I find it really weird how after about 40-50 rounds of firing an M2 Browning it over heats and I can't use it for about 20 seconds but I fire 100 rounds from some PKM that I pick off the ground without the slightest malfunction.

I was thinking rather than have the weapon over heat after 10-20 secs dnt have over heat at all in terms of the weapon stops working, maybe the weapon jams or even explodes after prolonged use.I am guessing that people will start to say well you use these weapons on burst rather than all out spray and pray use, this maybe true how ever when youre up close and personel with a FAV or HMV then having the option of having the gun not over heating after such a short space of time is a real benifit to the operator.
Im not saying dnt take the over heat out just tweak it to suit real life situations as in real life if you over heat it just dosent stop working you may cook of a round, jam or even explode in your face.
