technicals, gun-trucks, battle wagons.

"West Africa is currently going through a very intense arms purchasing period. a lot of embargo's have been lifted and western support has increased dramatically.
you will find a great deal of refurbished and modern equipment in the hands of rebel groups. mostly due to those groups being semi legit and holding vast reserves of natural resources. several are also ex military and defected with large parts of regularly forces and equipment.
Indeed, we can see many countries with modern Chinese vehicles and other stuff . Nonetheless, those new vehicles mean new models..Nonetheless, most of the vehicles should be from the 90's because even if they buy new stuff, it's gonna be kind of "anecdotal" (CRD get Xingxing from China, but only few when DRC is using a lot of old Russian vehicles). But this "anecdotal" should be in the faction as well!"

From what we saw, they are using smaller trucks to transport troops. http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/3264/15135694ub0.jpg

Again, these Chinese armored cars belong to Congo-Brazzaville, not DRC.

If you're looking for an IFV/APC, there're a lot of BTR-family vehicles in most African armies (PR got a BTR-60 model already).
The BMP-1 is used too, but the BMP-2 is way rarer (I've only seen one photo of it, Ugandian, but maybe Angola has some).

The AML-90 has seen some uses, and it'd a decent addition.

The Rooikat is from South Africa by the way. Nigeria has some EE-9 Cascavel.

its just a start guys, try and collate as much info as we can, make it like a smorgasbord of items so when the devs choose what they need they can take it from the most appropriate source.
my first post was simply to get the ball rolling, i have no position on this team or have any role in this faction, i simply asked a few questions and thought this thread might help.

as i have been looking at these technicals i have noticed a lot of them seem to be land cruisers and land rovers plus other 4x4 utes...

Tonnie you own some sports car dork. ahaha.
Yeah agreed, anything newer than the techy is a great step. you could possibly use the M35 Logistic Truck? Reskin it and make it look dirtier and add the mounted gun?

There certainly is something of a 4x4 competitor on BigD although I think you will find what they do a little more tame then you think. If I'm not mistaken they are actually scale model rock crawlers. A little cheaper than the full size ones I believe. ;)

I agree with tonnie that a respectable 4x4 would be a nice addition; however, I doubt African Resistance fighters have Bilstein shocks available to them. Spacers aren't hard to make tho, so that's a possibility. I'm not really familiar with what the average 4x4 (SUV or pickup) is in Africa, but I hear Toyotas are popular (especially the vans).
I doubt the van's a 4x4, but a Toyota Hiace would make for a descent version of the INS's station wagon. I guess a LWB LR Defender would work as well.

Why don't you get a Ural and chuck a ZPU on the rear tray? It's a completely believable weapon system, I'm sure I could find some refs of it.

Well this force will certainly need a close air support asset other than MANPAD's and its a gun truck such as that is realistic option for the militia. For the more conventional force it would be nice to see something a little more resistant to small arms though.

Sticking an AA on the back of a truck like the M35 isnt hard. very simple actually. Just re-modeling is the only ***** :) . Maybe I'll whip out a couple fun concepts with the M35 as a base of what we could do? working off the images provided

Modeling shouldn't really be a problem. I haven't looked at any weapon files in a good long while, but as long as the ZPU is a weapon similar to the stationary ATs and MGs from vanilla, we'll be able to just sit in the rear of the M35, assuming the M35 is wide enough. Or were you making it a flat bed?

Take a look at the design plan mate. :)
