Helicopter Control System

I searched, couldnt find anything excactly the same, but various similarities ofc.
So basically, when flying a helicopter, you have Throttel, X and Y axis and Left and right.
And also you can look around at the same time.
As of right now, you have to press control, and move the mouse, with no control of the helicopter to look around.
I am suggesting, that you enable the throttel to work in a way that you dont have to press the W key all the time, that it "locks" on a throttel percentage when you let go of W.
That way you dont have to hold down W like a maniac when cruising around.
Second mosion would be to allow the mouse to work independently from the keyboard, so you use the mouse to look around, and the left right forward and back buttons be the Y X axis of the helicopter.
This will enable you to control your helicopter and look for obstacles to your left or right, without having to loose control of the helicopter, or loose throttel.
I dont know if this is hardcoded.
Discuss.

I don't think that can be changed, apart from just reassigning it to another key/button.

For constant throttle input (like cruise control) I just use my Saitek X52, but you can get the same basic function on cheaper joysticks/controllers like the Logitech 'Extreme 3D Pro'.

Have you tried reassigning your controls?

Didn't combined arms managed to redo the helicopter control enough that the player wouldn't lose control of the craft when started to look around...
I have faint memory of that.
I think CAS_117 could enlighten us with his knowledge in this area of the game's mechanics..

^ you are incorrect on the chopper front. You can look around with the mouse in jets, but they have only decreased the effect that has on the aircraft, not removed it.
I use a joystick throttle as well. I also use my y-axis for my land vehicle throttle.
But I would also love a system as you describe. It would have alot of realistic implications imo.

You can make it so you can look around without pressing control, but this disables all mouse flying. Thats how the jets are in CA, you can´t have mouse controls assigned to movement at the same time otherwise when you look around the aircraft will move.
We didn´t do this for helis because alot of people like to mouse fly helis.
I think cas tried the throttle thing but I am not sure how successful it was.
Though I have to say it, if you want full control go for a joystick. You can argue to the end of the world about which is better or which feels better, but the simple fact is if you want constant inputs and better throttle control a joystick is the way to go.
Second mosion would be to allow the mouse to work independently from the keyboard, so you use the mouse to look around, and the left right forward and back buttons be the Y X axis of the helicopter.
This is possible but thats basically eliminating mouse flying, so either you fly with arrows or joystick. Not that I care of course being a joystick whore but alot of people still seem to use the mouse to fly helis.

Well i use My buttons i get full effect on turns... I mean you can have it the other way around, using mouse for turning and buttons for looking

i agree that there should be a way to lock the throttle (like 100%/50%/20%/0%)
cause i don't have a joystick and i dont have throttle control. and tapping W/S to stay on other throttle is hard

Its not hard, but i get frustrated cause i want to look around, and the only way of doing it.... Is by holding ctrl, and loosing temporary control of the craft...
