Connection Issues (not punkbuster related)

Hi

I am having various issues with Project Reality on my windows setup.

Im running a fully updated version of windows 7 64 bit

my system is as follows:

AMD 3.8ghz 955BE Quad Core
Radeon 4890 1gb
4GB DDR3 Ram

1. For some reason i am getting ridiculous amounts of lag on every server i play on, and i also keep getting a "problem with your connection" message. My connection is a 20mb line which isn't being used at all, i can play every other game online and i very rarely get lag... and when i occasionally do it's only for maybe a second or two. In PR the lag never ends, it's completely unplayable.

There are a couple of other things which might be related to the above problem. when i first sign into PR it takes quite a long time to get through the "establishing connection" bit when i sign on. Also whenever i view servers pings they are all radom, each time i click on the servers ping it will change. for instance when i refresh it says its 789ms, then i click on it and goes down to 105ms, click again and it goes to 270ms and so on.

2. Also whenever i join the main training map, the game always crashes to desktop about 10 seconds into the round. I thought it was punkbuster at first but i did the update method to get it working in windows 7 and i can join normal servers. just not the main training map for some reason.

If anyone could help with any of my problems it would be appreciated 8-)

Edit: Ok i have an update. I have just noticed that whenever i start up PR it literally brings my internet to a halt, i can't browse websites or anything. the second i close PR the internet goes back to working perfectly !

Your not the only one who has windows 7 PR issues.
Yes PB was an issue at the begining but that got sorted out.

I my self is also get massive amounts of lag. Do mind I didnt have this amount of lag when I was under XP Pro SP3. I am also getting horrible load times for maps and the first 15s of loading into the map after the loading screen, my computer will freze. I did a side by side comparision with a friends computer which is much weaker then mine and his map loaded faster then I did. I also get some random CTD, unknown what causes it. But once I get it rolling, I will get some intermittent 1s - 3 sec freze in the middle of the game. Again, unknow what caususe it, seems to happen at random.

A few fixes that did help me, I truend off my windows firewall. Updated my ATI driver.
It did help but there are a few issues here and there that cause PR to lag or long map loads. Win7 is still young so I am patient with it

this is really quite depressing, i just spent £25 on the digital download version of BF2 just for Project Reality and it's basically unplayable cause of this lag

here some tips on tweaking performance:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... emory.html

this one is known to stop crashes and (afaik) it can reduce lag
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... ssues.html

keeping drivers up to date is vital to get the best performance possible (drivers for older hw had the time to evolve that might explain why your friends load time was faster)

for load times hdd speed plays a vital role

to get an error msg from bf2 you can start it in windowed mode:
change your link's parameters to "+fullscreen 0"
try reproducing the error and
then google the error message you get from bf2

here is a guess: try lowering the priority of bf2 to stop the lags when in game "ctrl-alt-del" click on "task manager" right click on bf2.exe under processes tab and set the priority to a lower level that it currently has (this might decrease fps)

edit: to cut down the login time remove all the servers from your history/favourites list (esp. the dead ones - they are pinged on login - if they are dead they freez up bf2 for a few seconds [each])
