Multiplay has already patched their servers

UKWF's popular insurgency server was forced offline by multiplay today, after they decided it was a great idea to patch all BF2 servers to 1.5 with complete disregard for individual requirements and without checking back with their customers whether they actually wanted this update to be installed.

Our requests to revert back to 1.4 were summarily ignored by their 'customer service' and as of now we are essentially paying for a service that we are not receiving. Our contract with multiplay is running out at the end of the month and after what happened today we are certainly not going to renew it.

I would strongly recommend to any multiplay customers who can get out of their contracts to move their business elsewhere, as a company with a customer service that abysmal and with blatant disregard for their clients' needs does not deserve any business from the PR community.

Best,

Damn, that is definitely something to watch out for.
It's pretty normal for servers to be auto-patched but if they refuse to put it back to 1.41 there's a massive problem.

Yeah, my jaw dropped when it happened. We are essentially going to pay for a month of nothing. Hope there are server providers out there who appreciate our business more than multiplay does.

Very very disappointing.

hmm the prob is tho for most of those companies is that the majority of servers will want to be patched so it would be hard for them not to. However i agree that paying £60 for an empty server is absurd. They should at least refund the money for that month.

This. Contact multiplay, try to get a hold of the highest-up as possible, and ask for a refund for the month due to the fact that they are denying you a service.

I'm hoping all of the Devs' energies are directed towards 0.87 at this moment, this problem must be present on most server providers' networks. The changelog is already up so hopefully that means it'll be ready to roll soon.

It's understandable for the server provider to auto-patch all servers, but refusing to rollback for a damn good reason of "the mod that is run on the server is incompatible with the new patch", well that's pretty poor. Anyway, things are going well, you shouldn't be out of action for much longer ;) .

It's only really common practice for server companies to auto patch BF2 ranked servers, as we all know that the unranked are usually 95% of the time used for mods, but, big companies seem to forget who their money comes from sometimes.

Didn't they just switch your server to Holland aswell one time, when the server you were on wasn't up to par? Damn Multiplay :p

Hmmm, certainly agree with Robbi's first point. Supply and demand dictates that a company with a wide client-base of BF2 servers will upgrade asap, as no doubt the majority of their BF2 servers run vanilla...majority rules. They then then whack a nice graphic on their homepage saying "BF2 1.5 RANKED SERVERS AVAILABLE NOW!". I haven't been on the Multiplay site in a while, so not sure if this is the case :D . They have always been pretty reputible as a provider though.

It's a shame that MP has decided not to look at individual customer needs, especially for mod servers, seeing as they do advertise the facility to run mods on their servers as a selling point. For PR at least, this will be very temporary ;)

I patched the ranked servers only for my customers yesterday, left it up to the them for the unranked, that's sad, they must have used a cloud script to hit all folders.

Please note, I'm changing the title of the thread.

Yer, its pretty lazy really, but then again, script the ranked servers definitely, but atleast offer 1.5 as an option on the unranked, this is what a lot of providers are doing.

We are holding off on supplying the 1.5 atm, as 90% of our unranked business is PR now :)

Surely if you have a contract with them and there not providing whats in the contract you can sue them?

Well, you can get your money back, as you are the person that dictates what version you want, not them, but this is a point i've always had about multiplays support, they are always right... ^^
