I had windows xp installed vista, had to reinstall .85 to install .86. .85 is installed and will not load, every time I click it, it turns black and just crashes to the desktop. I have looked in other threads and found no answer. Can anyone help? I know nothing about computers so please explain as if you were talkin to your grandfather. If a thread like this is open please just give me the link.

erm i am assuming you are using the .85 FULL installers (levels and core)
then you need to use the .86 PATCH

installation guide is linked in my sig

i am quite curious why you cannot download the .86 full installers ...

tried it and that didnt work

you are providing too little information this will only be a guess work

to get an error msg from bf2 you can start it in windowed mode:
change your shortcut's parameters to "+fullscreen 0" ie: try reproducing the error and
then google the error message you get from bf2 if you do not find a solution post back here

I googled it and there was another post but I dont know how to change the resolution because it wont even load for me...

from the version number i can tell you do have the right bf2 patch (1.41)

and the next thing i would come up with is saying that you have corrupted files

since i assume you already tried to reinstall
i would say your installers are corrupted - only way to fix it is redownloading them - but then you can download the .86 full installers instead

another thing that might fix your downloads without have to download an awefully lot of data is to "resume" the file download with a download manager like FDM or GetRight or a torrent client like µTorrent - those would only redownload the corrupted parts thus having you to not dl the whole thing again

otherthings things you should check:
keep your windows up-to-date (Start -> All Programs -> Windows Update)
update your drivers (esp. graphics)

ok most likely a stuppid question but how do I reinstall my downloaders? And after i do this I would be able to download the .86 version?

And what do you mean by download manager? Can you explain more?

ok so I downloaded FDM and downloaded all the downloads (.85 core and map pack, .86 patch, core, and levels) now what do I do?

the important thing is to "save" the files and not just "run"

IF you have actually downloaded 5 files now as it sounds in your previous post you have got:
(make sure u are not mixing any numbers up!)
- Core .85 (pr_0856_core_setup.exe)
- Levels .85 (pr_0856_levels_setup.exe)
- Patch .85 to .86 (pr_0860_patch_setup.exe)
and
- Core .86 (pr_0860_core_setup.exe)
- Levels .86 (pr_0860_levels_setup.exe)

but all you actually need are those files (they are enough):
- Core .86 (pr_0860_core_setup.exe)
- Levels .86 (pr_0860_levels_setup.exe)

so if you have not already uninstall the old PR (not BF2, only pr) and install
1. Core .86 (pr_0860_core_setup.exe) and then
2. Levels .86 (pr_0860_levels_setup.exe)
