Special Forces Gamplay for Project Reality
Posted: 2009-09-03 05:12
Basics:
C130 or large air transport plane.
Special forces type gear, including parachutes, nightvision, and special-forces type weapons.
Night or dusk maps with set objectives.
Small teams; possibly 14 players on special forces team and 20 players on Opfor.
----------
Map layout:
On the very end of the map (as far away as possible), there is a landing strip and just one spawn location for the troops; this is the staging location. The plane on the runway. One, and only one person is allowed to fly the plane, and that person is assigned the pilot kit randomly.
At the other end of the map is the town (preferably) with the objective in it. The objective could range from "capturing" a top militant or destroying some sort of weapons cache, etc.
At another set point on the map is the extraction point, preferably about 500m from the objective.
----------
How it works:
The special forces team spawns in, and makes their appropriate squads. The plane is readied, then takes off. It flies high over the drop zone, and the special forces do a HALO drop on the target. Special forces move in to the area, neutralize one specific objective, and then get back to an "extraction zone" at another end of the map with a certain amount of players remaining alive. It is the job of the Opfor to prevent them from accomplishing this task. If more than 50% of the team is lost, the round will end.
----------
Just my thoughts on a SF version of PR
One of the problems with PR (at times) is achieving teamwork. When the amount of people in a server is reduced, it is much easier to coordinate and work as a team. In many situations, the fear of a respawn is not very high, so people tend to do that a lot at times. With this method, each of the special forces players knows that it is vital that they not respawn or die; therefore, they work together more effectively.
Ok, fine! I finally dug through the posting rules and found "no special forces only mod." But this is not just special forces. It's partly a suggestion on using a specific type of gameplay (this type of airdrop - objective - extraction could be used in regular PR; remember the "rescue the pilot" in that old version of PR? that was fun).
