CTD Madness

I used to get random CTDs that were mainly an annoyance. The game would minimize on it's own at random and I would simply maximize it and continue. Now when it happens it crashes as if I alt+tab the game......

Any ideas???

Try disabling AA it's said to fix it for some people.

I had that random minimize-to-desktop issue as well (haven't noticed on 1.5/0.87 yet, might still have it).

I guess that because it has started to crash when you alt-tab, it also now crashes when the game minimizes by itself.

Evrything ran fine for me with 1.41/0.86 now though with the update, I get CTD once every 2-3 rounds (normally during loading). Also, I can't alt+tab between the game and desktop anymore either, without the screen staying blank. It's kinda annoying having to switch AA off. Another great Dice screw up.

Been getting CTD within 20 seconds everytime I enter a server. Also can't alt+tab.

Sure am glad 1.5 came out! :-?

Same here. Every second map load causes a CTD.

I CTD whenever I try loading PR 0.874 and vBF2 1.5. Like, it loads the splash scrren in the center of my screen then it black screens and says auto adjust(my monitor does that for games) then goes back to the desktop. My McAfee doesn't work so I don't think it is the problem. I never had any problems for the 3 weeks I ran PR 0.86 with vBF2 1.41.

Dell Dimension C521
2GB RAM
Geforce 9400GT 512MB
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+
Windows Vista 32-bit

If you guys do this I can almost guarantee it will fix your CTD. It did for me anyway. It stopped CTDs even for people that did not have >2 GB of ram.

Yeah. I did that and it did not stop the crashes. I run and windowed mode and there isn't an error that is displayed. Is anyone else having a CTD like this?

Crash to desktop is what I get almost every round at least once. BF2 doesn't work with memory very well. It's not so obvious in the vanilla game but Project Reality uses huge resources so it's going to crash many times sooner than in normal BF2. Creative labs drivers are also a nightmare, they crash any game if they have enough time to do so.
If you have Creative soundcard, try checking the "Disable Sound Blaster enhancements" box (EAX is still going to work), then lowering the texture settings ingame from high to medium should delay the problem. I have 8gb ram and 1gb on GFX, it's still crashing way too often with textures on high...

Have you tried using the largeaddressaware fix?

The largeaddressaware fix is not needed any more, it's included in BF2 v1.5...
