Grenadier class on hilly terrain

My favorite class to play has got to be grenadier by far. There's just something about launching grenades 200-400 meters away and hear/seeing the explosion. One problem I have though is launching my grenades at targets downhill. I'll have the SL put a marker on the target to get the range, then I'll aim a bit under my intended target (EX if the target is 400m away, I might aim with the reticule used for 300m), but I never see or hear the grenade land. I've tried using smoke first so I can compensate after that shot, but I can never find the smoke. -_-

Does anyone have any tips for using the grenadier class in hilly terrain?

Grenadier is my favourite class too :D . What I generally do is crouch before I shoot (because the grenades have deviation too iirc). Then I shoot a smoke grenade to range the target, unless I haven't gotten much time. If you are defending a point on the map, then get used to your terrain and have some ranges ready.

Anyways what I see happening is the terrain is sort of messing with your head, so to speak. As grenadier you don't really want to be shooting above 0 degrees, not less. So you don't want to have your rifle pointing past halfway down your screen in optimum conditions. What is happening is the grenade isn't travelling the required distance before its hitting the ground. So it may seem like you are shooting far enough, but you actually aren't.

Advice? Just judge it by eye, don't mess around with the sights when aiming on slopes.

when firing up or down hill, dont compensate for height etc, as its still the same distance between you and the target, works just like real ballistics :)

Well, compensate a little. It does make a slight difference...

IIRC you do have to compensate, just like IRL when sniping from a elevated position its different than with a flatish plane.

nope, if your zeroed to say 100m, and the target is 100m away but elvated or de elvated, its still 100m, so you dont compensate,
i believed what you did until i went on a deer hunting course and the guy explained it all to me

Its as carebear said its the distance from you to them that counts. But the screen resolution is messing up the grenadier aim, its all about experience and learning the bottom line of the basic.

I've always used the sights with the grenadier. It really helps if you can get a range-finding marker from your SL.

I started off practicing with a smoke round and then an explosive round. Then, judging on the distance and the relation of your sight, adjust, and rain down hell.

Most of the time now I don't need to bother with the smoke round first, I can judge the distance pretty accurately. Now I don't even need the marker, unless it's for long distances. I can judge 150-250 metres easy.

Also, if you can get someone to spot from a safe distance you can fire them off from behind hills and walls so the enemies you're raining on can't see you ;)
